The installer files are both for installing a new site from scratch or upgrading from Backlight 1.
New sites will need all directories copied, including backlight/data/ and backlight/custom/ If you are upgrading from Backlight 1, keep these as-is and do not copy those directories from the installer.
In all cases, copy index.php and .htaccess from the backlight/ directory of the installer to the backlight/ directory of your server.
Unless you are using Wordpress, also copy index.php and .htaccess from the top directory of the installer to the top directory of your site.
Hi, please provide me with FTP access via email so that I can look into this for you.
Can you email through a Backlight admin login, and also the API Key that you've been trying to use? It looks like there are multiple keys in your database. I'm not sure how that could happen, but I can clean it up for you via the admin interface.
So well hidden that I couldn't find it myself when I went to look into this last night! I'm glad you solved it.
Backlight 2 and all of the modules, including the Cart, was a massive reworking that took 18 months of development time. Charging for the upgrade helps recover some of that cost.
Hi Chuck, I'm trying to log into your Backlight admin, but guest / guest doesn't work.
Can you provide me with a Backlight admin login?
Something's broken with your setup, but with 500 errors there's nothing for me to go by. Can you provide me with FTP access via Email so that I can look into this?
Hi Scott, blank pages with 500 errors can't be diagnosed from outside of the server. Can you share FTP access via email so that I can look into this?
Hi David, a bit of a tricky one, as the Designer doesn't have its own Dashboard. It's a fairly obscure function to link to from the main Backlight Dashboard.
(Technically, Designer does have it's own dashboard, at /backlight/designer/dashboard/ but this isn't linked from the menus any more)

Hi Mark, thanks for confirming. I’m glad that fixed it for you.
To have Backlight coexist with an existing site, only upload the backlight/ directory from the Installer zip file and nothing else. Then create gallery directories as needed via FTP, and set those directory names in the Top-Level Gallery created through Backlight's Publisher.
I have released an update to address this
To fix this on your site:
1. Visit Backlight Modules on your server. You should see that there is an updated version of pangolin-page available, version 2.0.6
2. Click Update All under Backlight 2
3. Confirm by clicking the Update button
4. Visit Designer > Templates
5. Click on the name of the template you're using in Wordpress
6. Click on the Export Theme to Wordpress button
7. Repeat steps 5. and 6. for any other templates you use in Wordpress
That’s the fix for the cart for embedded albums and the search page. The fix on our side will be to resolve the output of shortSiteURL() during theme export rather than at runtime (where WP won’t have access to the function). I’ll apply a hot fix and reply again here.
That’s great. I’m glad to hear.
Can you ask their tech support about this? There’s nothing we can do in our code other than try and suppress the error. Is the rest of the page loading correctly?
That’s no good. You’ll need to ask them to enable SQLite. This is standard PHP functionality that they should provide.
Your host isn’t providing a well-configured version of PHP 7.3. Your options are to work with their technical support to resolve this or change back to a version of PHP that does work.
I’m glad you worked it out. Module updates don’t touch anything outside the backlight/modules/ directory.
Hi Terry, sorry that your message went unnoticed. Have you dropped Backlight because of this?
The issue is most likely a misconfiguration on your host, which would prevent session information from being saved. That would effectively make the website forget everything about the user from one page view to the next.
The open base dir error is caused by a misconfiguration by your host. Only they can fix it. The exif issue is also caused by the way your host has configured PHP. Specifically, they have disabled the ‘exif’ module. This is standard functionality that they should provide. I suggest taking these issues up with their technical support, and if they can’t or won’t solve it to consider changing hosting companies.
Jim, I'd love to be able to make such an app. But there aren't enough hours in the day to make something like that. I've dabbled with iOS Publisher clients, making a very rudimentary one for Backlight, but that's as far as I've ever got.
No need to do that I just thought readers may be wondering about the update.
^ Not yet officially announced!
Can you share a link to an album where we can see this?
