Ok. Fixed!

In the home page, under the slideshow, I created 3 columns (well, cut & pasted from w3schools)

http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/test/home/

The first column text (Let's get together...) is lower than the other two columns.
Can anyone see where I screwed up?

The links do work, but it's an aesthetic thing.

The code is:

<head>
<style>
.newspaper {
    -webkit-column-count: 3; /* Chrome, Safari, Opera */
    -moz-column-count: 3; /* Firefox */
    column-count: 3;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<div class="newspaper">

<a href="contact">
<figure>
<figcaption>Let's get together over a cuppa joe!</figcaption>
<img src="http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/test/backlight/designer/?c=page&a=image&p1=8"    style="width:200px;height:200px;">
</figure>
</a>
<a href="Pricing">
<figure>
<figcaption>We're not trying to break the (piggy) bank!</figcaption>
<img src="http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/test/backlight/designer/?c=page&a=image&p1=11"    style="width:200px;height:200px;">
</figure>
</a>
<a href="https://www.weddingwire.ca/wedding-photography/marla-jenkins-photography--e2678/reviews">
<figure>
<figcaption>We'll do an amazing job, but don't take our word for it! </figcaption>

oh, and the image url should be:

it looks like you've copied it from the browser address window.
in Backlight > Designer > Uploaded Images, just click on the name of the image. Then on the resulting page, scroll down below the image and copy the url. Don't copy it from the browser's address window

That did it!
Thanks guys, another step in the right direction - just need to resize that puppy!

(**** this forum logging me out before I finish my typing!!!!!!!)

Ok so I am not seeing the image in the website, just the text.

I feel dumb because it's probably something obvious to a web designer,
My code is:

Let's get together over a cup o' joe!
<img src="http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/test/backlight/designer/?a=view_image&p1=8">

The image can be seen when I post the address in a browser though

If I upload an image using Designer/Template/Uploaded Images, using the fol. html:
<img src= "Marla-Watermark25_2.png">
Doesn't produce the image.
Do I need a path? If so what is the path (I couldn't find it). If not, what is the correct way?
Thanks

JimR wrote:

peter, I think if you lower the number of columns you'll get what you're asking for.

Look in the Columns at Screen Breakpoints of your template. That controls how many columns there will be for the width of the page. Fewer columns means larger thumbnails.

Set the entire range across all breakpoints. On the small screen of a phone in portrait mode just 1 or 2 is all that fits. You can test this by making your web page narrow and wide on your large computer screen. You can even resize the screen and watch how the thumbnail will dynamically resize, according to the number of columns you've set.

Yup that's it. Exactly what I needed to know.
Now my thumbs are doing what I expect... for now anyway smile
I know that the layout (Masonary, Classic etc. will change things too, but this is a big help.

Thanks to you both!

Under Layout, there are Pallets and Columns.
Is a Pallet actually a Column?

After discovering that you have to re-publish the whole set of images to make certain changes in an album, I decided to start fresh, with one album.
What setting controls the size of the thumbnail in the main page of a gallery set.
Not the gallery itself.

In the Design Template for the album set:
There is a setting under Thumbnail Grid for Thumbnail Max-width, but I can't see what it's changing.

http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/ … _Galleries

It's currently set to 500, but doesn't seem to be that size. It also ill become smaller if you change the window size, which I want to prevent.

Edit:
It seems that the thumbnails are sized automatically for Album Sets. If this is true, is there a particular reason for that? You can specify them in other templates.
The scale up a bit when the window is enlarged, but they are too small for my purpose.

Edit:
Well, it seems changing the Image Rendition in an Album template that is inside the Album set, seems to change the thumbnail in the Album Set.
Is this correct?

When I full screen the window, I can fit 6 thumbnails on the screen. My screen width is 1920 so that would make each one less than 320 wide.

(split from other topic)

Just to add to this.
Using Managed by Client & NOT enable feedback (counter-intuitive) in LR, brings up a log in screen requiring email for user
The password I used to set up a client in Backlight, with this email, doesn't work - Cannot log in.
If I enable the user/pass in LR and use he assoc. email address, then I CAN log in However, when I go to choose a photo, it tells me
Your not logged in!!

#161 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-17 04:51:25

Actually, I just discovered the 2nd logout works if the Unmanaged is selected in LR

Is there a setting that lets you stay logged in to this site? I don't know how many times I've had to re-type my comments, after being told I'm no longer logged in when I hit 'Submit'

Anyway, I am having trouble figuring out the correct settings for LR for a Client Response album.
When I assign an album to a user in Backlight, I am given the option to 'change' a password, not set it.
Since I want to have put in the users email, the user/pass in the Publisher setting seems nul.

Do I add a user/pass in LR anyway?
What is the correct LR Client Response settings too? Unmanaged or Managed? Enable default is on right?
The Logout buttons don't seem to work.
The first one gives a page error:

Not Found
The requested URL /backlight/client-response/ was not found on this server.

And the second does not log out.
Either with me logged in to Backlight or logged out.

You might find that using the Client Management features are worth your while. For one, it allows a client to log in, make selections, close the browser, and come back later to pick up where they left off.
With un-managed albums, the client will need to make selections at one sitting and submit feedback. If they submit feedback and come back later and log in again, then anything they submit will be a separate feedback submission for you to manage.

The advantage of un-managed albums is that the password can be shared so that a group of people can have access and submit separate feeback.
http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … management

Damn, you make a good point!
On the old system that was a problem, where ppl would forget to send and lose all their choices.

Thanks again Rod.

#164 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-17 02:59:14

I have found a recipe that works for me.
I do not add any 'Clients to the Client response section.
In LR Publisher (edit Album) I enable Password.
Then under Integration tab, I have Client Response as Unmanaged and Enable Feedback.
This does force the user to enter their own email, but it's one less step (adding a Client) that I have to remember to do!
Thanks!!!

#165 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-17 02:46:10

Ok I think I see the problem with BrandonJulie

Yes. You probably have the feedback Post Submission Actions set to "Close Feedback..."

Check the Backlight > Client Response Settings > Feedback Submission section.

Great! That fixed that one.
Thanks Rod.

#167 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-17 02:34:12

http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/ … leries/05/
(test/test)
So I logged out of Backlight and used IE to ensure there were no Chrome caching issues.

I logged into the album and as soon as I select an image, I get an error message:

'Something went wrong
You are not currently logged in...'

What's wrong now?

#168 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-17 02:07:57

Since this is related, I'm adding a new question.

When I make a Client Response by selecting photos from the test gallery and emailing the choices, they do get sent to me.
However, when the email send button is clicked, you are sent back to the log in screen for that gallery.
I would expect to be taken back to the gallery, since I'm already logged in.
Is this normal?

Second problem:
If I log in to a customer response gallery as admin, I cannot use the response feature, because I have to log in as the client.
Ok, I get that, but there is no way to log out!

Edit:
Ok - I guess clearing Cookies 'logs you out'.
Phew! I didn't want to erase all passwords in my browser!

#169 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-16 11:53:23

Thanks Rod - that fixed it!
Ni idea how that was set to Managed

Thanks so much!!

rod barbee wrote:

Peter, can you check and verify that the /backlight/client-response/ folder exists on the server (as opposed to the /backllight/modules/module-client-response/

Hi Rod, I have both those folders.
It was all ok, until I started to clean up my templates (house keeping), since I am close to finishing up.

For test purposes I created a new gallery from scratch:

1. Under Backlight/Designer/Templates I am at the Album Templates section:
I then 'Create New Template'.

I call this one 'Customer Response' I use an existing Page Template called 'Private Gallery Page' and I enable 'Client Response' from the Add-ons.

2. In Lightroom, I select Create Album by right clicking on the Album set i want it to appear in (Private Galleries).
I call it Test and use the 'Customer Response' template from the pull-down.

3. add some photos and give a user/pass under Features (test/test), then publish.
Test album now appears correctly, but clicking it also gives me the same error.

http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/ … _Galleries

I'm doing everything correctly, but it seems that if you do not have the Template file I deleted (default, or defaults or Default or default page... I don't remember.) then this message pops up because the Client Response function needs this template.

What is the correct name of this template? I could try creating one with that same name and see if that fixes it.
Currently I have the Default Template set to a template called 'Front Page'
I also tried to put in '1' for the identifier for that template, but it no likey.

#171 Re: Backlight Support » I broke it! » 2017-11-16 10:41:55

Thanks fir the suggestion, but that doesn't show the landing page for a client Select gallery though.
See here:
http://www.marlajenkinsphotography.com/ … _Galleries
and select the second thumb - Brandon & Julie, to show what I am seeing.

I deleted the Defaults Page Template.
on doing that, I was prompted to select another page that is used for Albums, so I chose that one.
Now if I go o a Client Select album, it can't find that landing page and it returns:

Something went wrong
Unable to find pageTemplate with ID 1. Try updating the selected template for the application. in EngineFactory.php on line 71

So where can I specify what page to land on when a Client Select album is chosen?
(That's what I wanted to do in the first place).

#175 Re: Backlight Support » New feature list » 2017-11-16 02:55:21

In retrospect, even if that is possible, I still prefer the Theatre Vegas slideshow.

If it had the option to swipe on a mobile, that would be really nice. I think users are so used to swiping a slide show, that it might be frustrating for them to first, pause, then click on a tiny button to get to the next image.

This might seem picky, but we have potential brides going through tons of websites to look at photos, and any distraction from 'the norm' would just give them an excuse to move on to another vendor.

We always hear from brides about them going through tons of sites when researching photographers.
I don't want to have the site that causes them to move on to another.

We can speed up the slideshow, but it's nice for them to be able to control it easily themselves.

If this is not possible, then I would have to search out a jscript and add it myself, but I really am a klutz when it comes to programming, so not ideal!
