Thanks again, Rod.
Let's see if Ben has something to say when he wakes up downunder :-). No urgency from this end, since publishing works apparently.
Alfred
Hii Rod,
thanks for looking into this, although the outcome is strange.I have downloaded the latest plugin from the Backlight3 Admin/modules page and installed it in Lightrom and when looking in the plugin-manager of Lightroom all I can see is version 4.0.10.0. Not sure what this means, really.
Publishing works, by the way.
Alfred
As others have said before:
The upgrade process was nice and easy, nothing compared to what it used to be in the early days. Thanks to Matt and Ben to have matured the product in so many ways, the upgrade process included!
There was one little thing I did see though:
When the upgrade process had run, I got the message that the .htaccess file could not be replaced automatically and I would need to do this manually by an upload from the downloaded installer (zip) file. I did this and then the rest completed without any further interruption and my site continued to run smoothly. I am not sure whether this has any relevance, but I thought I let you guys know.
Alfred
Hi Rod,
you're confusing me: When I download the latest LR Publisher plugin I see version v4.0.9 in the Change Log. Lightroom itself says 4.0.10.0 and you say it needs to be 5.0 ??? If you can, could you clarify this for us?
Thanks Alfred
Are you publishing using Lightroom?
If so, there is a setting "Cover Image" under the "Base Settings" tab. That's the place where you select, which image shows as the cover image (thumbnail) for the respective album. And the thumb has the ratio of the photo selected there. So you have to pick an image having the desired ratio - if you want to use that method.
I have created a special album, which contains all my thumbnails and I have selected "Hide from Album Set" under the "Features" tab in order to not show them as an album. I then manually select the thumbnail for my published albums from my thumbnail album. In that way I can make sure I have always the right ratio and a small size.
I think what Daniel is trying to say is: The first thumbnail image has a size of 400 * 320 px, which represents a ratio of 1.25 to 1. The second thumbnail for example has an original size of 5750 * 3833 px and this is a ratio of 1.5 to 1 => hence the ratios of your visible thumbnails are different. I reckon you need to make the ratios all the same and for thumbs it is not necessary to go beyond 400 * 320 (or whatever ratio you prefer) but they need to be all the same.
Nevermind, problem solved.
The Thumbnails album had a template linked, which is a Theater one used for my photo comparisons. When I switched this to my standard album template, it worked again. I have no idea how the template got changed, but the problem is gone now.
I have an album where I keep all my thumbnail photos. That has worked fine all the years, but not anymore. I have relocated from Sydney to Germany and not published since early December and are now ready to get going again. I have been able to publish a new album wihtout problems yesterday, and all the Backlight moduls are up to date. The error message I get reads: "This collection can't be updated (translation from German text). Error performing function (Code 418)". A forum search for "Code 418" does not show anything.
Any suggestions? Alfred
Hallo Rainer, I have switched to 7.1 - that works for me.
Alfred
Hi Ben, problems solved!
Great support, I love the responsiveness of this team! Once everything was in place I just needed to get my head around the required changes to my customs phplugins file, which was easy at the end with the help of the info provided by Daniel – many thanks for this as well.
Cheers guys, keep up the great work!
Alfred
Ben, Info sent.
Alfred
Hi Ben, I have still the same problems, nothing has changed. I’d be keen to find a solution.
Currently I am on a business trip in Germany, but I still monitor this thread.
Anything you want me to do?
Alfred
Thanks, Rod.
Hi Ben,
losely related: When I restored the backup I saw the huge number (of pretty large) Publisher Log files. You have mentioned in one of your recent posts about deleting them:
We have a function to do this: visit the Backlight landing page, then click on Remove Log Files on the page.
Is this a Backlight2 function? I don't see this in Backlight1. I trust I can delete those files manually though?
Alfred
Ignor my earlier post - I have re-uploaded the entier "data" directory from my backup again and now everything is working as before (Backlight 1). I must not have copied all files before. I don't now why, but it is fixed now.
Alfred
After I have had problems with updating from Backlight 1 to Backlioght 2 (reported seperately) I have rolled back to Backlight 1 by copying back the entire backup created just prior to the Backlight 2 upgrade.
Everythng seemed fine (Website works without any visible trouble) but when I tried today to add a photo to an album I got an error message in Lightroom:
....
Message: Unable to authenticate
When I now check in Lightroom the API another error pops up:
The authentication Check was NOT successful.
Please check the URL and API key.
I have definitely not changed that in Lightroom.
I thought I create a new API key in the Backlight Admin Backend -- and can't find the place to change the API key!
From another forum entry I see that Rod suggested to go to: Backlight > Publisher > Settings > Other > API Key
But there is nothing like that in my system under Backlight > Publisher > Settings.
All I can see there is Other (but nothing further) and Application Version 3.2.3. When I click on Edit I get the choice to Save Setting, that's all.
Has the failed update corrupted these Publisher settings and how do I revert that? I need help here, please.
Alfred
Michael, thanks for keeping me in the loop.
I have similar sentiments towards host europe and I might try to host my site with an old friend who runs a small hosting company as a second job. May not be the ideal solution in the long run, but like you, I need to try something different I am afraid. I will watch your case and keep you informed how my attempt goes.
Anyone else in this forum who hosts a Backlight site in Germany? If someone has a recommendation for a good hoster, please post it here or probably better send me a PM. I am happy to forward such info to Michael, as well and report back here once we have found a suitable alternative.
Alfred
Hi Michael, Ben,
same hoster same problem. Exactly the same error message. I will have to revert back to Backlight 1.
I am definitely out of my depth here. I had feared this would be the case, but thought I needed to give it a try to confirm it is something related to our hoster.
Alfred
Hi Ben, Michael,
I have received the following response from hosteurope:
In this case, there had no tmp path been defined for your script. For that reason SQLite has tried to write to /var/tmp, which is not writable for customer (scripts). As a matter of a one-time curtesy we have extended the relevant config files by the following line,
putenv("TMPDIR=/is/htdocs/user_tmp/wp1134443_GK99ZZU9WE/");
which should now make your script writing to your usertmp in the future, hence the problem should have disappeared. Please use MySQL in the future as opposed to SQLite, because this should be significantly less error prone.
I am up and running again, all observed problems have indeed gone! Not sure though what to make of the comment re SQLite/MySQL - my knowledge is not good enough to have an educated opinion.
Ben, Michael it would be nice if you could comment and thus close this topic.
Ben and Michael, thanks for all your support.
Alfred
Hi Ben, Michael,
I am afraid I can't add much information to what is here already. Michael is right; trying to clear the Template Cache creates the error he has described. I had not noticed this before.
I don't see a "Database is locked" error, I only see this:
[19-Jun-2018 11:29:16] ERROR: Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 10 disk I/O errorsql:'UPDATE `engine_view` SET`name`=\'index.php\',`type`=\'dynamic\',`path`=\'\',`rename`=\'\',`passthrough`=\'no\',`modified`=\'2018-06-19 11:29:16\'WHERE `engine_id`=\'111\' AND `view_id`=\'view.index\''params:array () in PdoExtended.php on line 552
Since I have been away from end of May into June, I can't confirm that the problems started for me around the same time as they did for Michael, but it is most likely.
I will lodge a ticket with hosteurope and see what they say. I have had no problems with them in the past, but the fact that Michael and I use them as our host and our problems started at the same time, makes it very likely that it is a host issue, but I'd be lost should they say all fine on our end ...
I have launched a ticket with hosteurope, let's see what they say.
Alfred
Hi Michael,
have you and/or Ben been able to resolve your issues? I have exactly the same problem. I have sent Ben an email already before I found this thread. Who is your Hoster? I am with host europe in Germany. Would be nice if you could let me know if and how you have solved your problem.
Cheers Alfred
:-) it can get worse Ben!
I went to Queensland in July together with our daughter for some Owl photography. My daughter decided to go to bed at 1 am calling us crazy when we headed out again in an attempt to track down a Red Boobook, which we had had just heard calling. Found the bird and got badly beaten up next morning for not forcing her out of bed, she is still angry with me … she is 28 this week, so some fun to come for you, I reckon! Ice-cream usually worked to calm down daughter in younger years, not anymore. :-)
Alfred
Matt, thanks for clarifying this. I got diverted when setting up the template where the Caption section appears, thinking this would be active.
It is probably again one of my borderline applications, which I like to use Flexstrip for. I am publishing mostly bird photos and had thought that Flexstrip would be ideal for displaying photos of different subspecies. Only a few photos in an album, which one wants to quickly step through to see the differences. I have knocked together a quick and dirty "photoshopped" version, which makes clear why Captions are essential for this case. It is here: http://fotowarkstee.de/galleries/1_bird … n-boobook/
It does functionally what I want, but I will wait until Captions become part of Flexstrip ;-)
Keep up the good work!
Alfred
Thanks Rod, you have described more precisely what I see as well.
Alfred
I have a useful application for the theater-flexstrip album, although I have a problem with the way how the captions are being shown:
When opening an image the “hand” cursor becomes visible, which I need to move a bit to have the caption shown on the image where the “hand” is. When I now move the “hand” a bit a second time inside the image, the caption disappears and I can’t get it back unless I move the “hand” (cursor) off the image and back on, but as soon as I move it a millimetre it disappears again.
For the application I have, showing caption / title is important. Is there anything I can do to have the caption permanently shown, once an image is open or is adding a text explaing all this to the visitor the only option I have?
On top of this problem I am not able to have anything other than {Title} shown, regardless of what is selected in the template, e.g. {Caption}. Have saved the template, cleared the template cache as well as the browser history.
Alfred
