#1 Backlight 2 Support » Updating Client Response Templates » 2019-10-08 21:01:56

I have a set of about 15 client response albums with about 1200 images managed by Lightroom that use the same settings and client response template.  These are private albums that require the client to login.  The problem is this client response template has been modified over time and some of the albums appear to use earlier versions of the same template.  I thought that clearing the template cache would correct this problem but I have done that many times without effect.  I've tried republishing the albums, adding a new album with the same photos.  This seemed a partial solution.  This republished album correctly used later versions of the page template but not the add on client response template.  I've also tried multiple machines/browsers and cleared the browser cache.

The only thing I haven't tried is updating the index files.  Since I have many thousands of images elsewhere in my site I'm hesitant to do this when the other steps seem like they should address this problem.  Has anyone experienced this problem?

After making any metadata content changes (tokens, changes to metadata), the image metadata must be republished.

It sounds like you've been doing that (you can avoid uploading the images themselves by checking the "Push metadata without updating existing photos" checkbox in Publisher settings)

Have you tried clearing browser cache as well as template cache?

If that doesn't do it, can you post the token string you're using?

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the help.

I've gone back and made sure that I've tried all these things.

This is a private album and the string I'm using in  Design Template -> Album Setting -> Photo Display -> Captions -> Tokens is

Caption:  {Caption}   Keywords:  {Keywords}

The thing is I used this is string in about 16,000 other images served on this site.  Perhaps I'm running up against a size limitation of the embedded database or the programming interface?

In Design Template -> Album Setting -> Add-ons->Client Response Features, Metadata 01 Title I've successfully set this to the string Title  Yet when I add {Title} to the Design Template -> Album Setting -> Add-ons->Client Response Features, Metadata 01 Tokens field the popup dilogue continues to display what appears to be shutter speed "at" f-stop from the selected image.

Not sure where to go from here.

I'm having problems with changes to Caption strings using metadata tokens updating.  This seems to be happening in the album Photo Display Caption text and in the Client Response Add-on dialog of some albums.

I currently have 95 albums with around 8000 annotated images.  Most are displaying the captions correctly using the {Caption} token.  Most don't have the client response add-on enabled.   In several albums, when I change a strings using metadata tokens the change don't get updated.   I'm making my edits in Design Template -> Album Setting -> Photo Display -> Captions -> Tokens.  In this same template I can make changes to the Caption -> text-align control and this updates immediately.  I also have the same issue with Design Template -> Album Setting -> Add-ons->Client Response Features, Metadata 01 Tokens

I've tried republishing these albums from LR and deleting the photos from the album, re-adding and then publishing.  I've also tried some of the dashboard options but I'm being careful because I'd like to avoid uploading 1000's of images.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  For many, many images this is working and I've even used this string with the embedded tokens in the past and believe I understand the design process that should work.

Ben will need to look into the search issues.

Thanks Rod,  I have CPanel access to the previous site for a few more days so I can poke around and compare PHP settings but I assume the searching must involve some DB indexing components.

The thing is there was some limited success initially doing a search on keywords.  Should I post another more specific question or use the email address included in his previous post?

Thanks for you help.  I continue to be a long time happy customer.

Sounds like it could be an upload limit. You can change that in the php.ini file if you have access to it. Otherwise, you can try asking your host’s technical support.

Thanks Ron, Yes i was able to relax the size restriction.  Now i have an album with 4 photos uploaded using the Backlight uploader.  The keywords are present and displayed but still can't be found by the search functionality.  Maybe some other PHP setting? it is version 7.2.17.  So now both albums uploaded using the LR plugin and Backlight seem to have complete metadata but the search fails.

Can you post a link to your site and a few keywords that should produce search results?

In an attempt to take LR Publisher out of the mix, I created an album outside of LR and attempted to upload a few images to this album.  The upload failed with this message on each of the 4 images.  The images are jpeg's 8-12 MB each.

How can I determine if this is a problem with the hosting service before my 30 day refund period expires?  Are there any version requirements in supporting software that I can check.

At this point my site is very simple.  I've checked all the settings that seem relevant but no search joy.  Any ideas on how to proceed?

The provider is knownhost.com.  I switched to them in early May.  Prior to that I was hosting with webhostface.com.  Before this move I had been testing for a few months with about 15 galleries containing about 5,000 annotated images.   I was very pleased with search accuracy and  performance.   During that time the Backlight installation was in a subdirectory. When I changed providers I installed Backlight 2 and treated it like a restore and adjusted URL's where needed.  So it seems like this should work.  I'm pretty sure the PHP version is ok.  Are there other dependencies I can check?

Thanks for you help.

I am traveling this morning and will summarize the error messages later today.  There are error messages on both sides.  Images in this gallery have a good selection of keywords.  Some of which are:
hotel
transportation
temple
event
child

I'm building a new Backlight 2 web site with a new provider and am having sporadic publishing problems.  The LR plugin often reports an error maybe 200 images into the download of a 600 image album.  Usually I can start up the process again or mark all the images for republish and try again.  Sometimes i need to delete the album through Backlight admin, then delete and recreate the album in LR and publish again.  Eventually I'm able to get the album loaded.  I've set my templates to display description and keywords.  I've verified that these items are correct compared to the values in LR.  I could live with this upload process but the real problem is that a search for the keywords known to be in the resulting images often returns no results. One album that has a single keyword sometimes shows up with results.

Any ideas on how to solve at least the search problem?

Thanks,
Dave

Do you have more than one Menu Set? If so, make sure the same menu set is assigned to all page templates you might have.

This could also be an .htaccess issue. Did you upload the .htaccess file from the root of the unzipped Backlight-installer.../ folder to the root of the site?

Thanks, That seems to have done trick.  I thought I uploaded the .htaccess file but apparently not.  Easy fix, thanks again.

Hi,

I recently changed providers and I believe successfully migrated a working Backlight 2 installation.  I'm in the process of making some changes to the site design and the work is not complete.  The problem I'm encountering is when I try to navigate through the menu bar I sporadicly get 404 errors.  There seems to be no pattern to the page not found errors.  If I return to the home page and retry the page may load this time.

A little background may be helpful.  On the previous server the Backlight 2 installation was in a subdirectory of public_html called newsite.  So when I moved the site after restoring the Backlight 2 directories I needed to update paths.   Eventually everything seemed to load properly with the exception of these occasional load errors.  As I continue to build the site I keep seeing these errors.  I think I've checked all the settings but the fact that sometimes I can move through the site (roundsimaging.com) is unsettling.

For what it's worth this box is supposedly providing PHP 7.2.16 and Apache 2.4.39 but displays a Litespeed logo with the 404 error page.  I can return to the previous provider within 30 days (at a higher price) so I need to figure this out soon and any help is greatly appreciated.  The site is roundsimaging.com

Thanks,
Dave Rounds

How do you limit a search to an album or a subset of albums?  A search at any level seems to return results across all albums (customers) even if they are in different album sets.

The search feature is global to the site available for all regular albums (albums can be hidden from search).
Client Respons albums are not searchable.

Thanks Rod, I assume that the search feature works with the shopping cart Gallery.
Thanks

Hi,

I have about 30,000 images to publish that have keywords.  I would like a Lightroom controlled website that allows metadata searching on the client side.  I'm having a hard time determining if this possible using some combination of Backlight addons.  I am a satisfied TTG customer but am hesitant to upgrade until I sure the new Backlight will meet my needs.

I'm looking to upgrade a CE3 site that makes use of CE3 CRG.  Does the migration tool work for CE3 CRG galleries now that the CE4 version of CRG is released.  In reviewing the documentation for the migration tool it implies that it would after CE4 CRG is available.

Thanks
