Hi again,
There's another probably related problem with thumbnails : sometimes, the thumbnail doesn't have any text label. This is newer than the corrupted thumbnail issue but it already happened 3-4 times. All other images in the thumbnail page have their text label displayed and for one of them, it's missing, although the corresponding metadata are available. In that case, altering anything in the metadata so that LR sees a change and re-publishing fixes the problem.
Hi Ben,
I'll try to collect more information as you suggest.
The problem occurs almost each time I make a change to any album and re-publish that album, and not especially in the album that I modified. As mentioned above, to fix the problem, I have to remove the image from the album, re-publish to let BL take this action into account (I don't need to make a change to the image), re-add the image to the album and re-publish again. Merely making a slight change to the image and re-publishing immediately doesn't help, though.
I should also mention that this never happens the first time I publish an album. Just, at a given moment after a change in any album, I discover that I have a thumbnail page that has at least one corrupted thumbnail.
One thing I have not checked yet is to verify, when that problem appears, that the problem is also visible in another browser or on my iPad or my smartphone.
I'll let you know.
Thanks.
Not only TIFF files. I just got the problem with a Canon RAW file.
Or could it be the browser ?
Hi,
I regularly get corrupted thumbnails with TIFF files, either in albums or in album sets. Here is an example :
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/554 … mbnail.JPG
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/554 … mbnail.JPG
The corrupted thumbnail always has an image height of about 1 or 2 pixels and the label text is overlaid with garbage. To fix this, I have to remove the image from the album, re-publish, re-add the image to the album and re-publish again. This happens rather often.
Any fix?
Thanks.
Thanks Alfred. I had to enable the cookies for the site (usually, I disable cookies under Safari).
Hi,
I can login to Backlight from various devices and browsers except when using Safari on my iPad (9.3.2). No problem with Chrome on the same iPad. No idea why. After entering the credentials, the browser immediately returns to the login page.
Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks.
I guess everything will be republished to the new folder?
Maybe not if I rename the folder on the server at the same time...
So using the slug could be a solution. What is the effect of renaming a slug? I guess everything will be republished to the new folder?
But you can't expect Ben and Matt to foresee every possible customization or to change the code for a single feature request unless that feature will benefit the majority of users.
As a former developer, I can understand this. A few remarks, though...
- Since Backlight is new, there are obviously only few users who had the opportunity to fully test the product and to report about what they think is missing, especially because there's no trial version (I know, it's not easy).
- On a photography web site, the presentation of the available galleries is certainly one of the most important points. The developers were aware of this since they added a lot of sorting choices. Just, custom order was forgotten, although it was not for the albums themselves. For the moment, I'm forced to add ugly numbers to my album titles.
- As a user, I certainly accept the idea that the development team is not at my personal service. As a paying customer, I am a little bit upset by the sometimes rather unpleasant tone used in some answers to my requests (not talking about you - thanks for spending so much time helping us).
- I appreciate the product and I appreciate the authors visiting this forum very often. Just, they should make the difference between fancy feature requests and requests that appear to me (as a software engineer) and very probably to others, as rather legitimate (not only talking about custom order here).
Backlight is not a custom system tailored to your specific needs. If you would like such a system then we can take this conversation offline and I can quote you professional rates for bespoke builds.
OK. I take note of this. Just, I thought I had read this on the Backlight advertising page:
Malleable
There are no themes; Backlight's built-in designer lets you customize just about everything, including site and gallery colors, layout, behavior and features. Add your logo, author page copy, and upload images; express yourself, and make your website your website.
Wondering what I was again smoking or drinking at this time...
Yes, it should be possible. Whether we think it's a good use of our time to make it so is another matter.
Well, isn't Backlight a "Customer-Needs-Driven" project? What about "my" time?
Since the thumbnails can be ordered according to other criteria, I don't think that Lightroom is in the way.
In Backlight>Publisher>Top-level>Galleries>Galeries>Albums, there's an album list. It should be possible to handle this list as in Backlight>Designer>Menu Sets> PP Photo Menu Set>Design . Just dragging and dropping the album titles like the menu items...
My two cents.
that's the way it's done though.
I see :-) but I consider this as a missing feature.
Rod,
I'm aware of both methods but what I want is custom order. As mentioned above by Rainer and me, the only way to achieve this is to prefix the album titles with numbers. Not especially elegant.
Sortierung ist alphabetisch
...oder bei Zeit der Albumänderung oder der Albumerstellung. Aber nicht benutzerdefiniert.
Schade.
Hi TomO,
AFAIK, the thumbnails of an album set never appear in the LR filmstrip.
Hi,
Beside prefixing album titles with a number, I don't see any way to get the galleries thumbnails custom ordered on an album set page. Did I miss something?
Thanks.
OK. Thanks. I just wanted to be sure not to have missed something.
Hi,
I also have a related question : on an iPad, when viewing large images, navigation is possible only by swiping (in photoswipe mode). Some visitors told me that they expected next and previous buttons. I understand that this may conflict with the full screen toggle action when touching the screen. Is this "no buttons" behavior intended?
Thanks.
Correct. So there's nothing to localize. :-) .
Hi,
Why close this topic http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=6755 after asking for information about which part of Backlight should be made localizable?
Anyway, when switching to full screen view, the message and the button briefly displayed at the top of the screen should be localized.
xxxxx is now full screen - Exit full screen (Esc)
Or are they?
I've long assumed the forum is maintaining some state via cookies, so that's why the status changes from device to device.
Confirmed. Very strange choice from the FluxBB author. I have just read information about this in some FluxBB related documents. Since cookies are used, the read/unread status not only depends on the device but also on the way cookies are managed in the browser. The result can therefore only be messy. Which is the case for me and explains what I observed.
A FluxBB mod has been published that allows to reproduce read/unread status management of phpbb, which is more understandable for the user : http://fluxbb.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?id=12883 .
Please Matt, I know how a forum software works.
Once I have read all messages in a thread or once I have marked a forum or all forums has read, only the threads having a new message should get the blue square icon. So if a thread get that icon and if no new message has been posted to that thread and if no message has been edited, there should be no blue square. So there's something strange here.
Once I have read all messages in a thread, the thread title is listed in gray and it no longer has the blue square icon. So what if a thread title has no new message or no newly edited message, is listed in gray and has the blue square anyway?
I'm accessing the forum from various devices and browsers. I have also noticed that the blue square icon may be there for a given thread on one device and not on the other. For example, while I'm writing this, I observe that on my iPad, one thread in the Backlight support forum has the blue square icon on the iPad (even after a refresh), while it doesn't on my PC (because I have actually already read it). This implies that some information about the read/unread status could be stored as a cookie on the device. Which is not usual for a forum software. That information belongs to the forum database.
It just happened again a few minutes ago.
Hi,
Since a few days, it seems that "Mark this forum as read" is no longer sticky. When clicking on it, all topics appear as read but when I come back later to the forum, some messages already read (title displayed in gray) have the blue square icon.
Also, messages that I have not actually read before clicking on "Mark this forum as read" show up again as unread when coming back later to the forum.
