#26 Re: CE4 Publisher » Feature Request: Hiding from AutoIndex except for Admin user » 2014-09-01 17:45:29

Hi Matt. That's true for someone using the workstation with LR/Publisher on (I hadn't thought of using that option). But it doesn't help when using another workstation, mobile device etc. I've been on the point of just maintaining a separate little web page with links to the hidden albums, but it's so much nicer to use the proper site for navigation.

It's no big deal, but it would solve a few problems for me, especially if it's not too difficult to implement.

Thanks, Chris

#27 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher hang when using LUA » 2014-09-01 17:39:07

Hi Ben

For the testing I was using the simplest LUA I could - {LUA=return Caption} as the Caption outlet. I'd be happy to run a diagnostic version of Publisher with logging if you could supply it.

Something else that might be relevant, especially as there do seem to be timing issues. As I was recreating everything from scratch I had to republish a lot. I have noticed that once I get above about 100 images in a gallery that they sometimes don't all publish. I get left with a few still in the to-be-published state. Hitting the publish button again pushes them out. This was noticeable when I was only pushing metadata updates, even one gallery at a time.

I also noticed, when I did the big publish-everything-from-scratch (with about 15 galleries publishing simultaneously) that a random selection (maybe 20%?) of the published photos lacked the Caption metadata. In this case Caption was constructed from Caption, Exposure etc just as normal tokens, not using LUA.

I'm starting to suspect some form of unsafe multi-threading happening, which would tend to be consistent with the randomness and greater probability on higher-end workstations. It might even be possible that a fault like that could be aggravating the LUA problem if their code is not thread-safe but is being called in a threaded environment without appropriate locking.

All speculation of course. As I said, happy to help diagnose where I can.

Thanks
Chris

#28 Re: CE4 Publisher » Feature Request: Hiding from AutoIndex except for Admin user » 2014-09-01 03:19:50

Hi Ben

Was just wondering whether another approach might be feasible. At the moment, for a non-protected album within a protected album set, when you access the url for the album it prompts to login to the album set. In some cases that is exactly what is required. But in others it might not be.

I think I could achieve what I wanted if direct access to the album did not attempt to login to the enclosing album set. In that way people could go straight to the album which would be effectively hidden. But someone with the username/password for the album set could see all the otherwise hidden ones.

It seems to me that this would be possible, as it is merely adding an album option to bypass the existing check of enclosing album sets.

Am I on a plausible track, and if so would you consider it as a feature request?

Chris

#29 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher hang when using LUA » 2014-09-01 03:06:58

I've completely given up on LUA now. It's ok on some machines and not others, and even then it sometimes self-destructs when just repeating the same operations. Sometimes a reinstall revives it, and sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes it works when concurrent publish operations are running and sometimes it doesn't. I'm completely beaten.

I've got some staticly generated ones that are acceptable so sticking with those for now. If anyone ever does figure this out please post how!

Hi Ben

I've started doing some investigation. Results so far:

  • Installed a new backend with default settings - no difference.

  • Installed the publisher plugin in LR on another workstation also on Win7-64, pointing at new backend. It worked.

  • Re-installed and re-loaded Publisher plugin on original workstation - no difference. Nor does restarting LR or rebooting help.

  • Deleted LR from original workstation, including Lightroom Settings. Reinstalled and restored settings saved from before experimenting with LUA. Created galleries in new backend with LUA. It worked.

  • Tried to republish galleries in the old backend (the publisher settings for this hadn't been cleared down when I re-installed). Failed. And now I can't even publish galleries using LUA to the new backend either.

  • Re-installed LR again, this time without clearing down the preferences. No difference.

  • Re-installed again, and cleared down prefs. Can again publish to new backend. Tried publishing the same couple of photos repeatedly to new galleries, same template. On the third time it failed, and now can't publish anything with LUA again. I don't think I went near the original backend publisher instance but can't be sure.

  • On the second workstation tried repeatedly publishing. 8 times worked ok. Now it's late at night.

It also makes no difference whether I am republishing the photos or just the metadata.

I'll keep at it but there does seem to be a certain random element involved. Wondering if it is some sort of timing window?? Workstation with the trouble is a pretty high spec, the second one is a modest laptop.

Alternatively there is some corruption in publisher info for the original instance, or something that is causing corruption. I'm on the point of blowing away absolutely everything to do with LR and Publisher on the original workstation, and starting again. On the bright side, the LUA script I had written worked first time....

Any ideas, or info from anyone else, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Has anyone run up against a problem publishing galleries that use LUA in the Caption? I can set the Caption (in the Publisher Setup) to something like {Caption} {Exposure} and it works fine (after uploading the template and republishing the gallery). If however I use any LUA construct instead, even something very simple like {LUA=return Exposure}, Lightroom hangs when publishing the gallery. No errors in the web server logs. I can cancel the publishing ok but then have to restart Lightroom before it works properly again. On the server the gallery is left with no images.

It seems very similar to a problem reported once with CE2 (http://community.theturninggate.net/top … -updating/) but no solution was posted that I can find and of course that was quite a while ago.

Using Win7 64-bit, Lightroom 5.6, CE4, Publisher 2.1.2, Gallery 6.0.5b, TTG-BE 2.0.2.

Any clues as to where to start looking would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

What does the "Update Album Files" link in the Publisher Admin (referred to above) actually do? Can't find any description of it. It's a bit like having a "Don't press this button" button smile

#33 CE4 Stage » HTML5 videos working, but always SWF/MP4 » 2014-08-17 03:46:38

I've just followed the instructions and got HTML5 videos working very nicely. I did create all 3 types (mp4,ogv,webm), and thought I would check the web server access log to see which was being used by various browsers. Quite surprised to see all ones I tried (Firefox 31/Linux, Firefox31/Win7, IE11, iPad ios7) all download the SWF components followed by the mp4 files - not one use of the webm or the ogv.

It does seem to be working, but seems odd. Is that what you would expect? I did put the mime types into .htaccess. I am wondering if I am always in the fallback mode for some reason...

Using Stage 6.0.2.

#34 Re: CE4 Publisher » Feature Request: Hiding from AutoIndex except for Admin user » 2014-08-17 03:37:55

Ah well never mind.

I did have one idea that I tried without success, but not sure why it didn't work. I created an album set (c) containing an album (cc). The AutoIndex template for c hid the entries for the contained cc. I could still go to cc directly with a URL. So far so good. I then created a password-protected album set (m) with a "normal" autoindex template, and within its directory structure created a symlink to c/cc. It was an attempt to fool it into thinking cc also existed under m. Not sure why but it didn't make any difference. I have FollowSymLinks on.

Is there any chance this sort of approach could work, or should I give up? No big deal if it won't work...

Thanks
Chris

#35 CE4 Publisher » Feature Request: Hiding from AutoIndex except for Admin user » 2014-08-16 20:21:23

In the past, for galleries that we want "gently" hidden from view, we would often publish them on hidden URLs rather than assigning passwords. Although we can still do this on now we have migrated to TTG, by hiding them from AutoIndex, it would be really convenient for us if the Admin user could still see them auto-indexed.

How difficult would it be to add a "Hide from Auto-Index (except for Admin)" option when publishing a gallery?

Thanks & regards
Chris

jackm: Unzip the gallery engine, then look in its top directory. It's one of the few top-level files.

#38 Re: CE4 Gallery » CE4 Gallery 604a » 2014-08-06 20:03:34

Found the problem - although it is a weird one to have on Windows. 604 has galleryInfo.lrweb; 604a has galleryinfo.lrweb - note the capitalisation of the "i". Rename it to the correct capitalisation and it shows up in LR. Haven't tested it yet...

#39 Re: CE4 Gallery » CE4 Gallery 604a » 2014-08-06 19:49:13

I've got exactly the same problem, but on LR 5.6 (Win7 64-bit). I've downloaded it again and diff shows identical. I can swap back to 604 without any problem, but when going back to 604a it doesn't show up in LR at all. Will keep looking...

For now have switched to the Magnific Popup for mobile devices, as it is fine there.

I've just applied today's batch of updates, and am pleased to verify that several things I have been waiting on have been fixed - thank you!

I have noticed an unexpected change when viewing mobile-touch images on an iPad-mini though. With Gallery-603 the images were always sized to fit the real estate without being cropped. With 604 though, they are sometimes too wide meaning the top and bottom are cropped. Examples (all images 6x4 aspect ratio):

iPad-mini portrait, image portrait, 603 image width to where the <> are and black strip either side no cropping, 604 image full screen width and slightly cropped top/bottom

iPad-mini landscape, image portrait, 603 image about half the screen width no cropping, 604 image width about 80% screen width badly cropped top/bottom

iPad-mini portrait, image landscape, 603/604 identical and correct

iPad-mini landscape, image landscape, 603 image not quite full width no cropping, 604 image full screen width cropped top/bottom

Same sort of effect on an iPhone4 except the cropping is even more pronounced because of its more elongated screen.

I've installed the ttg-be, publisher, pages, gallery & autoindex changes all in one go, and re-exported/uploaded the templates. I took a complete copy of the website onto another server before updating so am now comparing the two.

Chris

#43 CE4 Pages » Shared Resources - what does/doesn't Pages share? » 2014-07-27 17:06:44

Is there info somewhere on what information CE4 Pages "masters" when using Shared Resources? I have it enabled in Autoindex/Gallery/Stage templates, and I was expecting (after reading a CE3 post) to at least have the identity plate information carried over, and was hoping for things such as footer text, navigation labels, etc. But I still seem to have to enter all of those in each template individually.

Should those be propagated from Pages, or have I done something wrong?
(Using Pages with Publisher).

Thanks
Chris

P.S. Really happy with the software, and very appreciative of your support.

I just tried your test site from an iPhone 4 (IOS7) and it worked fine - clicking the download button displayed just the full image on the screen

In CE4 with Publisher, it seems that enabling "shared resources" in Gallery and AutoIndex disables use of the master password for protected galleries/sets based on those templates. I presume it is because that is amongst the information taken from Pages, which doesn't have passwords. Sharing the resources seemed neat both for convenience and performance, but I need the master password feature. Is there any way around this?

Thanks, Chris

#47 Re: CE4 Publisher » Authentication for Single Page » 2014-07-25 20:42:54

Hi Ben

I've sent you the info by PM. Thanks for looking into it.

I've just upgraded to AutoIndex-701 to get around the master/guest confusion in 700. That particular problem is fixed, but it now reveals an additional twist to this current problem.

I have a top-level password-protected album set, containing non-protected galleries. It's fine until I click on the permalink of an image in any of the galleries. That brings up the login page again (presumably relating to the album set???) but it is not possible to login - same symptoms as the original problem in this post.

BTW, I only have one gallery template that I use for both protected and non-protected galleries. The template has password protection enabled (so the option is not grayed out in publisher) and I just select whether or not I want gallery-level protection when publishing. I presume that is the correct way to do it (rather than having separate gallery templates)?

Many thanks
Chris

Posting this under Publisher as a best guess as to which module the problem lies in...

Using Publisher with a CE4 Gallery Template, the following sequence leads me to a problem:

  • Create/publish an album in Publisher setting a guest password, and with a least one image. Make it in the top level of the hierarchy to keep away from current master/guest problem with album sets / autoindex (fix coming very soon)

  • Access the gallery, and bring up the single page for an image

  • Copy the URL for that single page

  • Logout

  • Enter the saved URL

I am now (correctly) presented with the login screen, but login attempts all fail - both for guest and master. Interestingly each time I enter correct guest or master credentials I gain an additional ttg_lock cookie. Right now I have 4 identical guest ones and 2 identical master ones. And yet if I navigate back through the home page I still have to login again.

Apart from this one case (and another due to the autoindex problem I think) all the access control is working well.

AutoIndex 700 seems to be showing the same symptoms that were in Gallery before it was fixed - i.e. changing master or guest credentials changes both...
