#26 Backlight Support » Can't update this collection error » 2018-06-15 01:22:20

Trying to Publish an album from LR and I am getting this error:
Can't update this collection
Unable to perform action: uploadRendition
Message: Unexpected error: Undefined index: cs in init.oho on line 58

Any suggestions?

Oh, if I hit the 'Publish button again, after dismissing the error msg. it seems to carry on with the process, from where it left off (167 out of 300 photos).
It's happened a few times now.
Sometimes it will stop publishing (and display the msg) a couple of times.

#27 Re: Backlight Support » Master (admin) user password for private galleries » 2018-06-02 01:01:31

I though this was working, but not quite.

I see that this actually works with a 'regular' private gallery, but not with a gallery with feedback enabled.
Is there any way to access this without using the client's email login process?
Thanks!

Is it possible to access private galleries with a pre-defined user/password?
We have several password protected galleries, and, due to the hidden nature of the Lightroom Publisher password field, it's inconvenient to go and find each password for each gallery if you want to access them.

Cheers.

#30 Re: Backlight Support » Client selections issue » 2018-03-31 04:16:40

I cleared the IE browser cache and tried to enter a comment.
When I move the cursor over the comment area, it changes to a 'no entry' symbol.
If I try to comment on one of your images, I see the comment you made in light grey. And I cannot edit this either.
Any ideas why?

Peter

Update:
I went into the Backlight settings, clicked 'update feedback" and set it back to 'open'
I can now access the comments on each image and I did not lose any 'heart' comments.
So all good now!

My wife just got your 'response' and thought it was from the client and emailed her....
I should have told her someone might be testing...
Any way, I see that comments are working for you. Strange... I'll investigate.
Thanks

Hi Rod

"all images" include selected images and images that only have feedback but have not been specifically selected

The two extra photos that are in the 'All Imaged' group do not have any comments associated with them. In fact, I have not seen this used by our clients, so I tried it out and it does not allow you to enter any comments, only allows to rate with the stars.
Checked my template settings, and it shows as being allowed.
Not sure what's wrong there.

Are you viewing this album when logged into Backlight (and not to the customer's client response login)?
if so, that sounds normal (or is at least my experience). you need to log in as the client to see the selections in the album.

No, viewing without being logged into Backlight.

I will pm you the log in details.

Hi guys.

So there's something happening with browsers and customer choices.

I create galleries for clients requiring them to pick their 50 or so favourites from a gallery of 200+ images.
Our instructions ask them to log in and 'heart' their favs. We assure them that their choices get saved and they don't actually need to 'log out'.

When we log in (using their creds), we can see the selections, of course.

However, I just checked a gallery using Chrome, and there are '0' hearts showing up.

I notice that I do not require logging in (I'm assuming cached user/pass).

...to test with a different (unused) browser, I use IE and I am required to log in with user/pass and I can see the choices made by the customer are all there...

It seems this happens when I log in to another gallery (that hasn't had any selections made to it), then go back to the other gallery.

I am guessing it's a local cache issue that doesn't differentiate between galleries.

Edit:

If I access the clients 'Feedback' from Backlight admin, I can see their choices there.

Under 'Consolidated Images' there are two lists.
What is the difference between 'All Images' and Selected Images'?

The quantities are slightly different:

'All Images (66)'
'Selected Images (64)'

(There are 200+ images in the gallery)

#35 Re: Backlight Support » How to refresh a gallery after changing image order » 2018-03-06 04:33:22

Nice! Thanks a lot. That'll save me some time now I know how.
Seems like it should activate the 'Publish' button when you make changes without having to do that. Dumb LR!

In LR Publisher, I will sometimes want to re-organize a gallery. But after the edit, the 'Publish' button is still not active. I have to delete the images, then add them again and change the order to how I want it before I can re-publish.
Seems like I am missing something...

If you ever notice your lenses are focusing a little 'soft', there is a seldom used adjustment you can make from within the camera menu.

Our 18-35 group photos at one of our weddings just wasn't looking that sharp. Fortunately, we don't use that lens for that purpose very often, so the damage was fairly limited.

To check and correct lenses, I usually take 3 shots at +10, 0 & -10. Zoom in and see which is sharper. From there you can repeat with a tighter range closer to where the lens needs fine tuning.

The camera remembers the values for each lens you do this to. You can repeat this for other cameras.

This feature may not be available on all cameras.

We just booked another wedding for this year, already another successful year for us, but there's always room for one more right? I'm glad I'm not involved in editing - my wife is going to have a lot of late nights! Lol.

Our last meeting was a first - we met with just the father of the bride. (Sometimes we do meet with the MOTB if the couple lives OOT)

He is a retired s/w engineer, but he was literally gushing about out website. How clean it was and of course, the photography.

He mentioned he was a photography hobbyist, so we were able to talk tech jargon to him. That's always a good thing, because then it's easy for people to realize we know what we are doing!

What was really nice to hear, was that he had checked out tons of other sites, but he really loved ours.

Nice to know that our recent update from the LR plugin to Backlight is a shining success!

Couldn't have made a better decision to upgrade!

My visitor history report shows some referral links from: 127.0.0.1:8888/orange.html
What is that about? Anyone know what that means?

Currently, you can either choose 'Random' or one of the images from the album collection.
For a private gallery, I may not want to choose one of the album's (galleries) images.
If I add my special image to the album, I can select it of course, bur it will appear as one of the photos in the album too.
Thanks.

#44 Re: Backlight Support » Is there a copy of contact form details when filled in and sent? » 2018-01-11 07:59:51

I think it would be a nice option to have, given that some emails may not go through.

Because we 'tag' ip's (usually wth clients or people that have contacted us), we were able to send them an email. So we might be able to find out if they did send us a legit contact form.

As soon as I had a couple of 'support' calls to GoDaddy, and after reading about the problem being associated with them (DoS settings?), I decided my time wasn't worth it, so I switched to Bluehost. I would recommend you bite the bullet and do the same, if it's feasible (financially?) and be done with the fiasco!

Just make local backups first...

IMHO

#47 Re: Backlight Support » Can't update this collection error » 2017-11-30 06:03:52

Didn't do that for me. They need a support ticket that documented the problem was their problem. Support just claimed I needed to upgrade to a more up-to-date server. I didn't have the time or energy to try to persuade them that it wouldn't change the issue - the support guy said it would. For me to waste my time upgrading, then finding out it didn't solve the problem, then having to ask for refunds for all that...
Easier to let it go. I was halfway through the year so not a huge loss, and still no guarantee I would get a refund.

#48 Re: Backlight Support » Before I embark on using Backlight » 2017-11-30 05:58:24

I was in the same place as you. I think my website was done with CE2 and after a few years, it was time for a new look. I feared having to go through the Lightroom plugin again, as it was, for me, convoluted and difficult to use at times. Probably because it was draped on the shoulders of Lightroom.

It is now a stand alone website design tool, with the option of using Lightroom Publisher, using the add-on from TTG (pretty much a 'must have' for those of us using Lightroom). Publisher has a learning curve but there's easy to follow instructions here.

Yes, Backlight is way easier to use as an unshackled website building tool. The video link on the Doc & Support page at TTG is very easy to follow and once you get a site created, you can modify from there. I created a 'temp' sub directory and copied all Backlight files there first. So if you have a site already, then that is not a bad idea to 'piggyback' the install there first, as you'll want to try out the site before replacing the main one. Once you are happy with it, you can copy all the files to the root. You will only need to change the URL link (from Backlight/Settings) ,edit the 'Menu' links and edit the path in the Lightroom Publisher plugin.

So, easy to experiment and then 'go live'.
You may struggle a bit with terminology: pallets, columns, mastheads, trays (I think that last one was killed off in the latest release). Also Templates are used extensively, so you'll want to experiment. Just change one thing at a time and look for the result. Change it back if it didn't do anything (that you can see anyway). That way you shouldn't get into too much trouble!

When you are playing around, you'll want to 'Clear the Template Cache' every time you want to see how the website was affected.
Since Backlight lives on the 'back' of your website, changes can be seen very quickly.

Edit:
Backlight comes with 'Pages' (so you can have a website front page plus sub pages.
The Lightroom Plugin is also part of the Backlight program).

'Theatre' is an add-on. I was hoping for a full screen slideshow with mobile swipe, but unfortunately, that is not an option. Theatre does have other features though, so you can decide if that's what you need on top of what you get with the basic package.

The 'Client Response' add-on is great as it allows clients to tag photos and send their choices to you. I was using 'Cart' to do this with CE2, so now you don't.

I've been messing around. You might need to reload the page again, or refresh the browser cache (which is annoyingly tricky on phones, usually requiring a dive into browser settings).

So I discovered a while back!
it did reload for the landscape mode, but not for the portrait mode.
I'll check tomorrow and if it's still a problem, I'll report back.
I was hoping that the swipe feature on the Vegas slideshow had been added - is that one developed by Flickity?
Cheers!

Landscape mode looks good now, but Portrait is not wrapping...yet.
