#1 Re: CE4 Gallery » Looking for some help advice re: cover images on containing folders » 2016-01-18 01:24:01

Thanks Rod. Apologies: after posting I thought it was really a dumb question (and I should know better) as I just need to look up the dimensions in the gallery settings.  I did and chose long edge = 194px.

You are also right that you need to put thumbnails in each album's thumbnail folder.  By default only the lowest level target set you publish to has its thumbnail folder updated automatically.

All working now, thanks to you!

After doing all this, I must say that it would be nice to have some functionality to generate thumbnails for containing folders, based on the photos in the folders they hold (like generate a mosaic for Flickr! collections of albums).  However, that doesn't seem possible?  At least the manual work around you indicated, although time consuming, does give you complete control of what thumbnails will be visible at each folder level I guess...

Anyway thanks again for your help.

Best wishes, Steve

Thanks very much Rod, super helpful - as always!  I understand now.  Is there a recommended pixel dimension / dpi for normal and mobile thumbnails I should bear in mind when doing that?

Hello everybody!

First off Merry Xmas!

Second, I wonder whether anyone could help me with the issue described below?

Choosing Folder images for containing Folders

  • - I have a folder structure of the form Places/Japan/Tokyo
        - All folders are maintained in LR CC 2015 within a TTG publishing service
        - Only the Tokyo (child) folder has images published to by LR, the others are just containers
        - For both of the containing folders (i.e. Places / Japan), the choice of ‘cover images’ in their drop-down box lists the images in the Tokyo child folder as well as ‘random' and ‘custom'
        - If I try to set ‘cover image’ to ‘random’ for either / both of the containing folders (i.e. Places / Japan), then no images are displayed.
        - To get a cover image for either of the containing folders, I have to explicitly choose an image from those listed from the Tokyo child folder.
        - With ‘cover image’ set to ‘random’ for Tokyo I correctly get random images
        - Question - a) Is there a way that I can select ‘random’ cover image generation for the containing folders, or am I really forced to stick with a single fixed choice?
        - Question - b) what does ‘custom’ mean and how do I configure it in the ‘cover image’ drop down choices?

Here's a test website with the structure I described: http://www.stevenlippitt.com/galleries.php

Would appreciate any hints or tips!

Best regards, Steve

#4 CE4 Gallery » Lost my google maps icon - SOLVED » 2015-07-20 04:31:55

JUST TO UPDATE - now solved.

My mistake was to assume the maps enabling was driven by the template.  I double checked the publisher album for the gallery and on the 'features' tab the radio button for maps was actually disabled.  I don't recall having had to check this button when I originally set up the album.  If I delete that album though, the only other album is a hidden pages-gallery with Galleria (which I think doesn't have google maps enabled), so maybe when I created the new album it referred to the Stages template and that's the issue?  Not sure...Anyway problem solved by using the correct setting and republishing.

ORIGINAL PROBLEM STATEMENT
I just added an template (for HighSlide gallery and touch for mobiles) in my ttg-be/templates/gallery folder.  That and the existing single HTML template both have google maps enabled when I look in the web module in LR.  Furthermore, when I look at the saved web galleries in LR6 and select images, those templates both have the icon.

However, for some reason, when publishing with either template the icon no longer appears on my web gallery.  Here's a link to try it: http://stevenlippitt.com/galleries.php

I think in the templates folders that I edited the 'phplugins samples' folder titles to 'phplugins', but did noting else.  Could that cause me to loose the google maps icon?  I tried changing the names back, but no change.

Does anybody know where I can see in the template folders to check with a text editor that the correct settings for enabling google maps have been exported from LR?

I've double checked the LR web gallery files and it's OK in there:
styleData = {
            ["body.border_color.lrcolor"] = AgColor( 0.2, 0.2, 0.2, 1 ),
            ["googleMaps.enable"] = true,
            ["grid.presentation.desktop"] = "HTML",
So is there some other component (maybe in the galleries folder on my website?) that could be causing this?

Thank you very much Rod: that's just what I wanted to know!  Extremely helpful of you.  Best wishes, Steve

Hello all!

First let me say how much I like the product now that I am beginning to understand it better - it's very flexible and comprehensively specified.  I also love the modular concept, not only easier for maintenance, but it also makes it less over-whelming to get started.

I have a (probably basic) question.  I want to update the text in the 'page content' sections of the various pages (e.g. the Home Page, the Contact Page), as found in the Color Palette section of the CE4 Pages web gallery.  My question is:"what is the most efficient way for me to edit and publish changes in the text on those pages?"

I am happy with the rest of the settings, have galleries set up and know how to publish text changes to those galleries and how to work with gallery templates - it's not about that that I am asking.

If there's not a 'direct' publishing route (as with gallery publishing) and I have to edit directly and re-export the CE4 pages template, I'd like to know which files will carry the new information, so that I can then upload on to the server, so as not to disturb other elements of the site (e.g. galleries and templates) that I am happy with.

I hope someone can help, and apologies again if this is very obvious to experienced users - I'm new to web-publishing!
