Thanks Matt!
Great upgrade - now all we need is a link on this page to the new documentation
Upgraded my site a few minutes ago. That was the easiest upgrade of any piece of software from any publisher I have ever experienced.
Thanks to Matt and Ben for an excellent job, and to Rod and Daniel for always being there to offer assistance if needed. With this upgrade Rod and Daniel got to sleep late.
Not on my computer. Like I said at the beginning of my post, I followed your sequence to the letter and did not experience what you described.
I'm using the same Chrome browser on Windows 10 you mention, and I have gone through your stated steps and do not see the problem.
If I DO click on "Add Session Package Items" and select "Add to Cart" THEN I am locked in to selecting 10 digital, 1 postcard, and 1 postcard image. The options will not revert to a non-package item until you have selected everything that goes into the package. Closing the browser resets everything to the original state when you again reopen the gallery.
Looks to be working as expected. Just tried these same steps with the Edge browser (44.18362.387.0) on Windows 10 with identical results.
German characters can be entered into the "Title" block by using ASCII codes such as ALT + 225 for ß and appear on the web without problem.
The "Name" block is the name used within lightroom - not on the web. So if you enter what you want into the "Title" block your visitors will see your German characters.
I presume this is a limitation of Lightroom, not Backlight
Go to your backlight admin page, click on the modules link, and you'll see a link to download the current lightroom publisher plugin near the top of the page.
If you are viewing in the English language, German and French appear as your choices. Why would it also display a choice for what you are already viewing?
Switch to German, and the choices are now English and French - because you are already viewing the third language.
Am I missing something?
In your CSS, try this -
vertical-align: middle;
Okay. The reason I posted is because the template indicates that it does support Markdown. Perhaps a cosmetic change is needed.
Attempting to use Markdown in an album description field -
Publisher => Galleries => (choose album set) => Create Album => Base Settings => Album Description
Using a Pangolin album template..
Markdown works fine in Album => Page Content => Page Copy. Problem only appears in the description field that is used in an album set (Descriptive) and the Album Description within that set. The copy entered appears, but without any recognition of Markdown formatting - or HTML for that matter.
I set up a test environment here with bare minimums, and three sample albums with the description entered by using Markdown as well as plain text and HTML mark up.
Again - I only see the problem in the Album => Base Settings => Album Description field
Markdown doesn't seem to work when working with album descriptions online (without LR). I've tried entering directly online using Markdown syntax, and also entering the text in MarkdownPad2 and trying to copy/paste. Am I missing something?
Backlight => Publisher => Galleries => Add Album Set => Features => Visibility => "Protected - requires access code"
then Features => Access Code => Edit to enter your desired password.
My upgrade to BL2 was smooth and easy. Follow the directions, don't try to "read something" into it, and you should be fine. Just make sure you upload everything as instructed - particularly the htaccess files.
And on the off-chance that things get messed up - Matt, Ben, Rod and Daniel are fast and efficient in providing help.
Enjoy it. I think the product is GREAT, and I've been using TTG products since CE2.
The way I set up video album thumbnails is to go to Backlight => Publisher => Galleries => Your Album => Edit Album => Cover Image and set this to "Random".
Then Backlight => Publisher => Galleries => Album => Your Album => Add Photos and upload one photo to serve as the thumbnail. That image appears in the Album Set display.
Try uploading without ftp - go to Backlight => Publisher => Galleries => Albums => Your Album and click the "Add Photos" button.
This works for me quite well.
Seems so obvious when you point it out. Thanks Ben!
Presume I have created a number of albums within the top-level "Galleries" folder. These were all created online with BL2 without using LR. Later on, I decide to better organize those existing albums within new album sets.
Is it possible to move an album into a new set without deleting and then recreating it?
Pideja - I was referring to Album Sets created online via Backlight rather than through Lightroom. It does still work via LR I believe, but not via BL2 online.
Album Sets that I had previously made in BL1 were updated without problem into BL2, including the "Description" text that appears in the thumbnail of the Descriptive Album Set. And in my BL2 Pangolin Album Set template (template => Thumbnail Grid => Album Info) I can set a limit to the description length, etc.
However, when going to Publisher => Galleries => Create Album Set there is no provision for entering a description or other text that would be included in the descriptive thumbnail.
Or am I just missing it?
The instructions include additions to be added to your .htaccess file -
Are you referring to the .htaccess in the root, or within the Backlight folder?
A problem exists with using the ampersand (&) in the LRPublisher plugin.
Presuming you have an album or album set within the top-level "Galleries" - and entered an ampersand in either the Album Title or Album Description. Everything publishes as entered.
If you later decide to edit the album or album set by selecting "Edit Album" within LR, the ampersand used in either the title or description will change to "&". If you don't notice the change, when you complete your editing, that "&" will be passed to your online album.
If you subsequently edit the album again, say to change a pricing scheme, the "&" then becomes "&" - and will again be passed to your online album if you did not notice the change. This sequence continues with each time you enter the editing window.
The problem with the ampersand is also present within the LRPublisher plugin in LR CC. If you had previously entered an ampersand in the description area (Base Settings => Album Description), and select "edit album" again for any reason, the ampersand becomes "&" in Lightroom. Select "edit album" again and it immediately becomes "&" - and continues adding an additional "amp;" each time you select 'edit album'. So if you enter an album from within Lightroom to change a setting, say to change the pricing scheme, if you had previously entered an ampersand in the description area - it WILL change, whether you notice it or not.
Additionally, I notice that editing an album (album text at least) in LR is somewhat hit or miss - sometimes the edits will appear online, sometimes they don't. Noticed this when I was testing the ampersand problem. Not sure if it's just my system or not, but it needs to be looked at.
If your album description does in fact change while using LR - and you notice the problem - you can successfully change the text by editing the album copy from within Backlight. But you have to notice the problem first.
Perhaps it's a VERY good thing that LR is no longer a requirement!
Tried a new install in a clean subdirectory to use as a development environment.
Everything installs correctly, but the Theater update, although listed as installed, was not available via the template design page. I had updated albums and cleared cache first. Not sure if the Theater installation is acting as expected or not, in that it was the free upgrade offered via email.
I corrected this by copying the "custom" and "data" folders from my existing site and reinstalling BL2 as an upgrade.
No issue for me - my subfolder installation is up and running. Just thought I'd point this out if anyone else has the issue.
You can install the Okapi modules from the Backlight 2 Modules screen - at the bottom left. That should bring all of your Okapi based templates back into play.
