Agree, flawless and quick upgrade. Thanks to you all.
John
Thanks Mark,
Your solution worked for me too
John
Thanks Rod,
I tried your suggestion to discover that I can no longer create a new album. LR API URL can no longer find publisher. Not sure how it worked to specifications a few weeks ago but after I "tweaked" the VM it no longer works. As I said in my earlier post I worry that the directory structure has been corrupted.
I think I might be best to do a fresh install but I am concerned about maintaining the albums that would take a long time to recreate. Any advice on how I might be able to do this?
Thanks
John
Thanks Ben, here it is.
http://reynoldsweb.ca/galleries/default-album/
I worry that the original installation of Backlight 2 might have been flawed. It worked as it should but i worry about the directory structure.
/var/www/reynoldsweb.ca/public_html This contains directories for Backlight and Blog and Galleries
The Backlight directory is Backlight 1 and under it is Backlight 2
Appreciate your advice.
Thanks Rod, I get a message that says "not found". I wonder if there is an .htacces error in that it "mydomain.com/backlight" directs to
http://mydomain.com/backlight/backlight/installer/
It all worked fine before I had to do the repair. DIrectory structure and files were not changed.

Hi,
I had to reconfigure a hyper-v virtual machine running Ubuntu and hosting my Backlight 2 website. No change to directory structure or files but I can no longer load the website. Instead I get:
Warning: require_once(./../../backlight/framework/Framework.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/mydomain.com/public_html/galleries/default-album/lib.php on line 48
Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required './../../backlight/framework/Framework.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php') in /var/www/reynoldsweb.ca/public_html/galleries/default-album/lib.php on line 48
I understand from other posts that this can be fixed by updating the album files from the dashboard. I cannot access the dashboard.
Is there a backend or alternative approach to fix this?
Many thanks
John
Thanks so much Ben, in the end it came together very quickly. Really appreciate your help.
John
Thanks Ben, this did the trick including the link to Lightroom now works as it should. Also it made me confident enough that I could go back and do an upgrade rather than a fresh install.
The upgrade got me a big part of the way there. The galleries home page is fully restored but clicking on each gallery generates the following error message:
Warning: require_once(./../../backlight/framework/Framework.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/reynoldsweb.ca/public_html/galleries/1981/lib.php on line 48
Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required './../../backlight/framework/Framework.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php') in /var/www/reynoldsweb.ca/public_html/galleries/1981/lib.php on line 48
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
John
Thanks Ben, Installing php7.0-zip did the trick

Hi Ben, I am sorry that the wrong message came through. I was following up on your previous comment. "Sorry, but if you're going to run your own server then you need to know what you're doing." My frustration is not with BL-2, it is with me. As someone with no training in IT I have managed to keep up with the needs to get BL and its predecessors operational. Now I take one step forward and two steps back.
Thanks for your suggestions I have confirmed that all are as they should be. However now I am getting an error message trying to connect to http://mywebsite.ca/backlight/
This page isn’t working
mywebsite.ca redirected you too many times.

Thanks for any suggestions.
Thanks again.

Hi Ben, Sadly i am in the category you refer to in the last post. I installed Ubuntu under Hyper-V just so I could run the early versions of TTG. Been using it for about 8 years and managed well with all the previous upgrades. This upgrade has stumped me have all sorts of problems and have decided on a new install rather than pursuing the upgrade route. Will take a lot longer to complete, but hey, I retired a month ago. BL 2 is clearly a lot less forgiving than previous versions.
Have been unable to get the lightroom API to work even with following the directions you provide above and elsewhere.
Any suggestions on whether if might be possible to import all my gallery folders into BL2 once I get it back to the appearance I used to have
Thanks
John
Hi Been struggling with the same problem but have the additional problem that I am the administrator of my own server which is Ubuntu 18.04. Dont have the benefit of a C Panel and have been struggling for hours to ensure that PhP Zip 7.2 is installed. I get the same error message over and over. With the new delivery method for Backlight 2 my backlight no longer works. Any suggestions or advice? I realize that this is a server issue but hope there is an alternative way to install
"Your host does not provide support for the ZipArchive PHP package"
Did something I should have done a while ago, turned on WP logging and it showed the problem to be a wp plugin that must have been incompatible with PHP 7.0. Deleted the plugin and back came Wordpress. Thanks
Thanks for the link. Have modified the WP_HOME and WP_SITEURL in the wp-config.php file as directed in the link but unfortunately this did not help. The other approaches mentioned require that I can login to my Wordpress account, but I cannot do that. Not sure what I can do perhaps have to recreate the wordpress site from scratch.
Thanks anyway.
Hi, hope I can get some help. Running Backlight under Ubuntu Apache2. Had Wordpress working fine in a blog directory under the root. Upgraded to the most recent Ubuntu and thought I would clean up the directory structure and so moved the entire website, including Wordpress. With some tweaking of the configs all Backlight/pages open fine. However, Wordpress refuses to open "This page isn't working" Unable to handle this request. I now see that you cannot just pick up Wordpress and move it to a different location. Well, I've done it. Any advice on configuration changes that might bring it back to life? I cannot log on to Wordpress any more so cannot change using this approach. Have use Google and looked at Wordpress help site and cannot get any of their suggestions to work. Any thoughts?
Thanks to you both. Will look at the code, but I know that I have not entered any custom code. I only make changes via Backlight.
For reasons I am not clear on my navigation bar jumped to the top of the website over the masthead and I want it under the masthead. Cannot find how to change the location on the default template. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
John
Rod,
Thanks so much for the comments both here and by email. I have been able to fix the problem. I have taken the liberty of copying the relevant parts of your email. Sorry couldnt paste the image. You guys rock.

"Ok, I see what you mean. All of your albums are displaying the masonry layout. The difference between your 2016 albums and your older albums is that the 2016 albums have much larger thumbnails. All albums are using three columns, it appears that the older ones, with the smaller thumbnails, are not filling the space.
You could try republishing the older albums. There’s a setting in Publisher set up that allows for re-rendering thumbnails without having to re-render the large images."
Hi,
I converted to Backlight from CE4 and previous versions. I have it working fine, now including WordPress. One issue I cannot figure out is that all my galleries now use the Backlight Standard Gallery Template which sets the thumbnail display to masonry. All the newly created galleries use masonry. All the older galleries still display as classic. I have republished and ensured that all the galleries are using the new Standard Gallery template. Any suggestions on why the view is not changed from classic to masonry for the older galleries?
Thank you.
Thanks Ben, I tend to get engrossed in sorting out problems like this and so worked until 3 AM troubleshooting. After a few hours sleep I now see that it is working as expected. I guess sleep fixes everything. No explanation on how this happened but thanks for the feedback. I never did get the Migration tool for CE4 publisher to work. I find these sorts of tools can be unforgiving and find the imperfections in the way the system is configured. Quicker to start with a fresh install. I open up the settings for each existing album set and album and then close it again and then I can publish with the new Backlight settings. If I don't do this then the republishing crashes. So all good. Love the system and it is worth the effort.
John
Thanks for the direction. I think my issues were related to problems with directory access and ended up spending a long time trying to fix. Was never confident that the configuration was appropriate so decided on a clean install and recreating all my albums manually. Now have a new problem. The system cannot find a galleries.php. Is it automatically created? I have done a search and cannot find a version that looks appropriate (date) for the new install.
Thanks for the advice
John
Hi
Have a CE4 running great in the root. Created a subdirectory called Temp and installed Backlight. All worked well. Once it was well developed I wanted to start the upgrade from CE4 and so copied Backlight directory plus the .htaccess plus the index.php from the Temp directory into the root that includes the working CE4.
When I try to start Backlight from the root I get the following message in the browser.
Would appreciate any thoughts.
session_start(): open(../framework/../data/sessions/sess_i2adefnlj2nah59e02mm0qooi0, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13)|#0 [internal function]: ErrorHandler::handleError(2, 'session_start()...', '/var/www/backli...', 72, Array) #1 /var/www/backlight/framework/helpers/AuthHelper.php(72): session_start() #2 /var/www/backlight/framework/init.php(120): AuthHelper::handleSession() #3 /var/www/backlight/admin/index.php(17): require_once('/var/www/backli...') #4 {main}|URL: /backlight/admin/index.phpUnknown: open(../framework/../data/sessions/sess_i2adefnlj2nah59e02mm0qooi0, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2)|Unknown|0
Thanks very much
