I'm getting getting an error when trying to login to Backlight. I think I was on Backlight 2. I haven't been active in a while. I've move and lost my folder of notes . I lookup up my username and password by ftping to the site and opening /backlight/data/admin/password.txt. Is there a way to get the screenshot of the error to you?

See this page for the instructions on retrieving passwords for BL2 (and 3). The password.txt approach only applies to BL1.

the folder structure of BL1 is different than that of BL2. Can you post screen shots of the folder structure of the backlight/ folder on the server?

Actually, looking at the html of the site you referred to it looks like you're on Backlight 1. The site is using the Okapi templates from BL1
unless you updated to 2 but didn’t make any changes.
a screen shot of the backlight/ folder structure would help

that doesn’t do us any good without the link to your site.

I've got SSL working now that I moved PHP to an earlier version. My site is https://rossdickinson.com. Since I'm still running the Okapi templates what is your recommendation? I'm not clear on the following quote from the upgrading document.

from your screen shot I can tell that your on Backlight 1
what that text means is that when you update to Backlight 2, the Okapi modules are still available and you can install them. they will be available on the Backlight Module page, which is part of Backlight 2. This will keep your site looking the same until you can create Pangolin templates and apply them to pages, album sets and albums.
Backlight 2 and 3 are easy to update. You just have to go to the modules page and click on Update. Much easier than the old download, unzip, upload procedure of BL1

We supply the Okapi templates for transitional purposes. The Pangolin templates were introduced mid-life for Backlight 1, but not everyone adopted them. We provide the Okapi templates so that such users will not be suddenly faced with a broken or undesigned website after upgrading to Backlight 2. At this stage, however, you should be using the Pangolin templates; Okapi is retired.

Either is fine. Okapi still works in the meantime, and you'll just want to spend some time transitioning your site to the newer templates. The downside of staying on Okapi, of course, is that they haven't been updated in ... I don't know ... three years or something? Pangolin is where all the new features and improvements are.

I've been a long time user of CE 1-4 and upgraded to Backlight. I now have time to work on getting Backlight 3 working and adding more modules. I'll research the upgrade from Okapi to Pangolin and decide when. As is always the case with this site. The help is outstanding. Thank you.

There's not much research to be done. You'll just want to create new templates using the pangolin modules, then reassign your albums, sets and pages to use them. Backlight 3 has a Reassign feature that makes that pretty easy to do. Or, if you delete an Okapi template, you'll be asked which template to use to reassign everything that was using it.
To get started, I'd create a new page or album, and make it private, hidden from view. Then use that while you design your new templates. When you're satisfied with the new template, then reassign your public pages, albums, etc.

I am now working on getting a new Pangolin Template in place. I've created the "Pangolin Standard Template" with type Pangolin page. The new template is not visible to Lightroom although the API connection. Probably a simple answer but I'm missing it so far.

Page templates are not visible to Lightroom. You need to create album templates and album set templates.

Depending on if you have the Okapi modules installed, the option you should be given when creating a new album template are:
Okapi Album and Pangolin Album (at least it is in Backlight 2)
