<img src=" /blnewsite.davidbuddphotography.com/backlight/custom/img/treesunrise.jpg" width="300" alt="treesunrise">
The result is that just a blank frame shows with a "?" and the alt attribute.

since you’re in a subdomain, try this instead
<img src="/backlight/custom/img/treesunrise.jpg" width="300" alt="treesunrise">
Note: being able to form urls like this is one of the main reasons I like developing in a subdomain. the same url will work when the site is moved to the main domain and you don’t have to comb through the site changing urls for inline images.
