I lost my entire site so I upgraded and am doing a new install on Godaddy. I got past the first hurdle (PHP version) and am now getting the message "Unable to write to backlight/modules". I followed the instructions from the link upgrading to write permissions, first for just the Data folder but when nothing changed all of the folders using Godaddy's built in File manager.
I continue to get the same message.
Any ideas?

I did using Godaddy's dashboard and then using Filezilla. I first changed the permissions to 755, followed by 777 and both get that same message.
Unable to write to backlight/modules. Make sure that this directory can be writen to by the server.
I've seen some references to putting the Backlight files in a directly called /public_html but when I've tried this, the website isn't found.

The folder name is host specific. It might be /public_html, /htdocs/, or something else. You can see this in your host's cpanel where the domain is mapped onto a directory.

All right. I finally got some time to spend with this. Evidently I'm on an old server due to the time I've been with Godaddy and am running Linux and not cPanel. Does this matter. Should I upgrade to cPanel?

Here are the hosting requirments:
Hosting
Linux OS
Apache server
PHP 5.4 or newer
SQLite and PDO modules enabled
Make sure that they meet the requirements. PHP 5.4 is pretty old so they'll probably be running php 7
I don't know that having CPanel has anything to do with it.

Got the basics going. Turns out that the write properties were not set properly. I wasn't doing it right in Filezilla.
