Rod,
I have started with BL2 with this development site http://corvette-photography.com/TestBL2/
I am trying to replicate my old site http://lesmarmitonsnj.com and have created all the top bar menu items and some of their pages but they do not appear in the test site. What am I missing?
Also, the dropdown that does appear is a flyout rather than dropdown. I can't find a place that fixes that one either.
I have not yet migrated any albums.
Thanks,
Paul

This is truly confusing. I created a menu listing all the items from the original site and made it the default but it does not display on the site. I edited the Default menu down to just Home and that is all the displays even though it is not the default menu. ARGH!

Have you assigned your new menu to your page template?
When you make a menu a default menu, it will be assigned to any page template you create after that.
Check you page template. At the very top is where you assign a menu set to the page template.

Thanks for that tip. Now all the dropdowns are showing on the main nav bar even though I assigned them to main nav bar items.

it looks like you created separate menu items rather than adding items below main menu items.
If you want to share Guest Updater credentials I can take a look.

Yes, I guess I made them all main menu items. I will work on it again.

It looks like the first sub becomes a flyout and the rest dropdown. See our Menus vs Our Events. Is there a way to make them all dropdown without a flyout?

Make them second level items, rather than third.

I can't find a way to do that.

Under your Our Events item, you have 2018/2019 Events. And you've put the rest of the events under 2018/2019 Events. Remove those items from under 2018/2019 and add them under Our Events

I get it. I entered the first one and then just kept adding more to that one.
I am copying and pasting text from old php files to the various pages but each sub page does not appear when I click on a dropdown item such as Dues under Membership. What is the trick to get that page to appear in the correct place? Only to top item text appears. This must have something to do with the identifier for each page.

When you create a page in Backlight, it will appear as available for the drop downs in the Menu Set.

Yes, I did that. But the actual page does not show up when i click the the appropriate dropdown button. I get the Membership text under all the buttons. I am missing something here.

OK. I was linking them to the top item instead of their corresponding item.
Thanks,
More to come, I'm sure. I've got to take a break for now.

In CE4 I was able to link html pages through php into each page. Can I do the same here or do I have to copy and paste the html from each of those files into the corresponding page in BL2?

Not sure what you mean.

In CE4 each link had a php file that refecenced a separate html file. Here is an example. http://lesmarmitonsnj.com/menu2018.php Click on the menu to see the html file.

Those are just hyperlinks to pdf files. You can do the same thing in Backlight. Just write the links with html or Markdown as you probably did before.

I think this is a page that you created with CE4 Pages. With Backlight, you create these pages with Backlight > Designer > Pages and enter your text in Page Copy > Main Copy. There is no more a need to copy/ftp files. This is much easier.

That is a whole lot of extra work when you have 13 years worth of monthly pdf files. I am trying to link each set to a drop down.
Right now I am trying to create a sub menu page and I get an error about formatting error in identifier. I cannot find anything that explains how this should be formatted. Is there anything written about this or is it still trial and error?

You have one page per year/season. So you can just copy the respective source code from your current php file into the new page. Yes, it is a bit of work, but totally worth it in order for your site to keep the current look and feel.

On the left side of the Identifier field, there is a 'I' icon. If you hover over it, it provides additional infos on the formatting requirements: The name used for the page URL, e.g. about. Accepts letters, hyphens and underscores.

Are you trying to use special characters or spaces in the identifier field?
If you want a drop down from the navigation menu, that should be easy. For the "Link to:" option, choose URL and include the link to the pdf file or to a page where you have a set of them.

I experimented until I got one to work. The little "i" doesn't tell you much.
I am experimenting with the URL link right now.

I tried to copy and paste the menu2018.php code into a BL page and got this: So that didn't work.

So I tried with the URL link to the menu2018.php file and the site stops while loading the nav bar. You can see that now at http://corvette-photography.com/TestBL2/.
I guess the old php code will not work in a BL2 site
