Can we change the default post in wordpress them from backlight?

So the default post type is one column, which just shows the post.  If we want any widgets to show, they would be in the second column (which I have setup). However, to do this, I have to change the post type every time I add a new post, and I sometimes forget.

So, I would like a way to set the default post to be one, two or three columns and then on the left or right side.  Maybe this could be a choice in the theme setup or in the backlight setup for the wordpress theme export?

If anyone has ideas, I'd be grateful...

David.

try setting up your default preference in the page template layout for the theme template

Re: Can we change the default post in wordpress them from backlight?

Which area are you suggesting I look at:

1. the page template in backlight 2 used for the wordpress theme
2. the wordpress theme design in backlight 2
3. the wordpress theme design in wordpress

I looked in number 2, backlight 2 wordpress theme design and cannot find a setting.

So, 1) I am looking for a way to set the defaults for a wordpress post to 2 columns, widgets on the right, and 2) a way to make the home page in wordpress, the posts page, a two column page with widgets on the right.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the reply...

In Backlight, your WordPress template uses a page template.
Try changing that page template to two columns aligned to the right.

In Backlight Settings > WordPress, if you’ve not set “Export on Save” to Yes, you’ll need to manually export the theme to WordPress

Thanks Rod.  That worked for default posts....

Do you know a way to set the home page with the list of posts, to show the column widgets?

My best...
David.

it should work the same way. At least it does in my testing.

If you're question is how to make the home page show recent posts, then do that in WordPress Settings > Reading

if you're blog is using any sort of caching, you may need to clear it.

Re: Can we change the default post in wordpress them from backlight?

Cache is King!  (sorry, bad pun).  Yes, the fix for the default posts did carry to the home page.  I am sure the cache was not clearing because I was constantly refreshing the page.  Overnight it must have cleared on its own.

So, to recap.

1. the page template in BL2 used for the WordPress theme can be set in the layout to use the main column only for posts (1 column) or the main column for posts and one or two additional columns for widgets (2 columns or 3 columns).
2. when in wordpress, you can then define your widgets for those two columns and they will show on the home page and the posts, by default.
3. if you customize your wordpress to a home page that is a wordpress page, the same should work, but you must design your own page.

Thanks,Rod, for all the help and patience...

Best.
