Cannot login Backlight

Hi team,
I can't login to Backlight.

on www.bobvansanten.com/backlight  I get error:

Something went wrong

count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in SimpleHTMLTag.php on line 44

I am using Backlight version 1. My site is working normal, it is just the login that fails.

I recently moved to PHP 7.1.

I found an older post with the same issue, but could not find a solution given.

Thanks for your Help!

Bob

Re: Cannot login Backlight

Hi Bob, can you downgrade to a PHP version such as 5.6, upgrade to the latest Backlight version, and then again switch to PHP 7.1?

Re: Cannot login Backlight

Daniel, is downgrading PHP essential when upgrading Backlight? I have some other non-backlight parts on my site that requires 7.1....

Re: Cannot login Backlight

You might need to.
For some updates, including the final update to Backlight 1.2.3, after uploading the files you need to log in and visit the various sections to update databases.

Do you know what version of Backlight that you’re using

Re: Cannot login Backlight

This is a PHP code incompatibility. There is no need to change to PHP 5.6 to upgrade Backlight.

Oh, I forgot that with Backlight 1 there is no need to login in order to upgrade..... Installing the latest version should fix this issue.

Another trick, in Backlight 2, is to visit backlight/installer/ again.  Doing so will fetch the latest core modules (e.g. admin, framework, designer, publisher, pangolin-* modules) and install them over the versions of the modules that are already there.  That should help recover from any code issues within the Backlight admin that prevent logging into the Backlight admin in order to update modules.  That of course assumes that the installer code doesn't have issues on that server.

Oh, that's a nifty trick! I like it!
