how can I set the order of the albums in an albumset in BL2? For CE4 this was possible via the directory name.

Use the album slug, that acts the same as the CE4 directory name.
There is also an album order setting in the album set (filename, filename descending, etc)

I numbered the album slug accordingly. But I suspect the BL 2 sorted by album title. It is not nice if I insert a numbering here. Then this would also be visible in the album set view

Change the album set sorting to “Slug” then.
If this is in the top level (your Galleriies Page), you can change the ordering in the Top Level Gallery Properties.
In Backlight go to Publisher. Click on the name of the top level gallery. Click on Edit Properties.
