If I have a virtual copy of a tiff, Backlight Publisher only publishes the original tiff, not the edited virtual copy (commonly I use this for B&W variants)
Publishing virtual copies of DNGs work fine, but not tiffs.
Lightroom bug or Publisher bug?

Are you using the latest version of Publisher?
I know Ben just made some changes so that filename duplication is no longer an issue (for instances where perhaps two versions of the same image are being published)

Good question. If you're using a non-virtual copy to edits come through, or only an unmodified rendition?

Possibly not? I first installed backlight January 6th. So it's that version.
What is the proper procedure for updating the plug-in (and how would I be notified to do so)?

If I "edit in photoshop" "with adjustments from Lightroom" then save and replace the virtual copy with that tiff, it works fine (with edits applied). Though in that process I renamed the resulting tif files, so that may have poisoned the result (EDIT-EDIT-EDIT-3.tiff was not a good idea)

Usually the notifications go out in the Newsletter or the Blog. In those postings, if Publisher needs updating, then that's noted.
But you can always check your Backlight Modules page for updates to Backlight. Those will be in bold lettering.
The changelogs found on the Backlight Modules page will also advise if a Publisher update is required.
You'll find the link to the Publisher plug-in on the Backlight Modules page as well, near the top. There is no notice for that because Backlight has no way of knowing what version you have installed on your system.
Since you installed Backlight on January 6th, there have been updates. So when you visit your Backlight Modules page, be sure to update things.

Hello,
I just downloaded and installed BL2 this month and am experiencing the same issue with virtual copies not publishing properly. Are there any updates to this issue?

Check to make sure you’re using the latest version of Backlight.

What is the proper procedure to update the Publisher plug-in in Lightroom? Just replace the actual plug-in in the finder or actually remove and re-add the service (which sounds like a disaster).

You can probably just replace your existing plug-in in the folder you've stored it in.
You can remove the plug-in from the Plug-in Manager and add it back in too. The catalog stores all your Publisher services (albums, sets) so removing the plug-in doesn't remover your albums.
