Hi,
In Lightroom in publisher a cover image for an album can be set to custom. But how and where do I select an image as custom?

this works exept from this album being displayed from the toplevel gallery
see www.fotograafdonald.nl/2019 -> galleries -> full set

are you setting the cover image for the album sets inside of full set as well as any album sets further down the chain?

Hey, I have the same issues as mentioned above. I have a "album set" containing a few albums and have created a "hidden" album with thumbnails. It works great with using the cover image in the hidden folder for the "album set" however folders at the same level in the chain are not able to read/find images from the hidden album (at the same level in the hierarchy)
This is how it looks
ALBUM SET
-Album 1
-Album 2
-custom_thumbnails
and album 1 and 2 should be able to read from the custom_thumbnails.
Any simple work around to this issue?

Read again the post that Rainer linked to. The name of the slug of your custom thumbs folder is very important, it should be “custom-thumbnails” with a hyphen, not an underscore.
Otherwise, if you prefer to add custom thumbnails to each album, create a custom-thumbnails folder in each album and choose Custom as the cover image. The thumbs will then be randomly taken from the album’s custom-thumbnails folder.

Even with the hyphen it doesn't work, however the very simple solution with just putting it in the albums custom_thumbnail folder was the simple solution I was looking for so thanks for that, it fixed my problems! Thanks!
Couldn't find any documentation about this in the backlight2 info thou... I might have missed it(?) if not would be great to add there!
Either way my problem is solved so thanks for the quick reply!

I'm not positive, but I think that custom-thumbnails album needs to be placed at the top level:
galleries/
custom-thumbnails/
album-set-1/
album-set-2/
album-1/
album-2/
etc...

Rob, i tried that as well to be honest! I'm sure I made some mistake and that it might work but since the other solution with just adding the files manually into the "custom-thumbnails folder" was so simple it was a much easier fix for me! If you figure it out thou feel free to let me know what I did wrong! ;-)
Either way I must say that after going from a CE4 site to a Backlight 2 im really impressed with the new version.... really easy to work with!

As far as I know, all you need to do is create an album and give it the slug "custom-thumbnails" (not just a folder full of thumbnails)

I don't see any problem. I've done it like Matt wrote in my link above and all works perfect.
