Backlight 1 > 2 update error

After updating to Backlight 2 and the Lightroom publisher module, on any Publish command, I am getting the following Warning:

  Can't Update this Collection
  Unable to perform actions:  uploadRendition
Message:  Unexpected error: Call to undefined function
  exif_read_data() in Image Resizer.php on line 92

No doubt I've missed something ...

Thanks for the help. Don

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Hi Don, it looks like the exif module is missing on your server. Can you see whether that can be enabled within your host’s control pane or ask your technical support to enable it?

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Thanks Ben. So is use of exif data new in Backlight 2? I can't see anything within cPanel re exif or whether it is enabled. Maybe from WHM? I share a server and haven't messed with this kind of stuff for years.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Thanks Rod.
So at the top of the PHP List for 5.4.45 under "Configure Command", there is an  '--enable-exif' ... and then closer to the end of the command string, a  '--disable-exif'. I guess the second one wins.
Is editing the Configure Command in the domain of cPanel or WHM?
But is exif use new in Backlight 2?

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Ben will need to answer your questions.

I don't know if the exif module being used is new for Backlight 2. I didn't see anything about it in the Changelog.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Thanks again Rod. I didn't think 1->2 had anything like this ... which is why I think I've missed something. But exif isn't there...and that's the error.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Fetching the exif data from the image itself is new functionality in Backlight 2.  This is to allow handling of images directly within Backlight so that images can be handled outside of LR.
I need to add checks for the EXIF module before attempting to use the function, and also review whether accessing exif_ functions can be avoided when images are coming from LR.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Sounds good Ben. I will get '--enable-exif' going in my php config ... and when done confirm it is all working.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

I am getting a different Can't update this collection message:

     Unable to perform action: uploadRendition

     Message: Unexpected error: Undefinted index:
existingPhotold in PublisherDelegate.php on line 734

The recalcitrant line:
         ErrorHandler::trace('existingPhotoId: '.$parameters['existingPhotoId']);

I hope I have done that correctly!

All other help would be greatly appreciated, since I succeeded in upgrading one of our websites to Backlight2 and am now embarking on the other.

Thanks,

  TBC

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Did you also install the latest Publisher Lightroom plug-in?

You should also be sure to upgrade to the latest version of Backlight that was releases yesterday.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Thought I did, Rod.  Actually deleted current plugin and reloaded it, then restarted LR. When I get this sorted out, I'll update to the latest BL2.

Meanwhile, Publisher claims to be version 4.0.

And it still does not work.

I updated the site to BL2, but I should double check on exactly where the new index.php and .htaccess files should go

Within backlight or at the top level of the website directory.

Thanks, as always, Rod,

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Download the Publisher plugin from your Backlight Modules Page (link on the Backlight dashboard page under Quivk Links). It’s near the top.
While you’re there, click on the “Update All” link to update your Backlight installation

Did that, too, and double checked a couple of times.  The versions match in all cases.

More hmmm!

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Is there some file that might have a residual http instead of https?  If so which ones and location of same.

Thanks, I hope.

Thanks, I hope.

Nothing that should affect updates. But you’d need to scrub through any copy text.mphphlugins, and custom css that might be calling other assets, like page images.

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

Not worried about the workshop site right now, as it is functional.

The https://www.BC-FineArtPhotography.com site

Meanwhile, is there a "scrubber" that works with Backlight2?  Without knowing where text.mphplugins may reside, I am at a loss.  I already went through the custom css for the site.

Take care,

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

When I say scrub, I mean actually look at your pages' text for any links that are http rather than https. Same with your phplugins file and your custom css.

You can just open your phplugins file with a text editor and search for http

if you send me login info for the fine arts site, I can poke around and check for things

Re: Backlight 1 > 2 update error

This is caused by a combination of the Backlight publisher code assuming that the value for the existing Photo ID (i.e. the id of the photo used internally within Backlight) is being passed from the LR Publisher.  That would only be the case for the latest LR Publisher.

The remedy is (as you're aware) to update to the latest LR Publisher.  I have also put in a hot fix in the Backlight publisher code to remove this dependency, which shouldn't have been there in the first place.  If you've already managed to update the LR Publisher then it won't be necessary to update the Backlight publisher.  To do so, visit Backlight Modules, then click on "Reinstall" for the line for module-publisher.
