I am currently a CE4 user and am considering upgrading to BL2.
I am looking for some feedback on is it worth the time and effort?

Here are a few reasons to upgrade:
not needing to work in the Lightroom Web Module is reason enough.
Designing in Backlight is much easier and faster.
You can publish albums without Lightroom if you wish.
Implementing customizations (custom css, phplugins) much, much easier.
Built in drop down navigation (no need to do this with phplugins)
Images as page backgrounds built in
Embed albums and album sets in stand alone pages
Lots more....

In Backlight 2: installing updates is a matter of a click or two on a page in the back end of your site: no more of downloading updates, unzipping, and then uploading to your site.
Page and template specific body classes are automatically created for targeting with custom css (one of my favorite Backlight features)
More options for masthead and navigation placement.
Easy integration of Google fonts
One, two, or three column page design.
ReCaptcha for Contact forms
Content of sent contact forms stored in the database

Backlight 2 is up-to-date with current Web standards and hosting configurations.
Backlight 2 is in active development and support.
Multi-language support, if you need that sort of thing.
Contains features for EU privacy (cookies) and GDPR compliance.
Easy switch to HTTPS if/when you get SSL certification for your domain.
And I happen to think Backlight 2 offers the best version of our slideshow presentation to-date.
