I installed Backlight 2, and now the website is down. I thought I did everything correctly. I did get an error when installing, and had to call GoDaddy to change my configuration because ZipArchive PHP (I think) wasn't allowed, but they did a change, and then the installation went correctly.
Now all I get is an HTTP500 error.
My web address is www.fastcarphotos.com

Hi Kurt, unfortunately 500 errors alone don't provide any information on the underlying problem. Can you provide me with FTP access via Email so that I can look into this?

Will do!

until Ben can take a look, make sure that the index.php and .htaccess files in the root folder of the download are in the root of your site.
You can also try going to the Backlight dashboard and under Special links, click on the Update Backlight Index Files link.

I'll check that.

I replaced those files, and did an update on the index files and the album files, and the galleries are now working. My "about" and "contact" pages are not.

It looks like you are upgrading from CE4. Do you have files such as contact.php, about.php etc in your home directory? If yes, they need to be removed, but don't delete index.php ;-)
You might want to run "Update Album Files". This can be found under "Special Links" in the Backlight admin dashboard.

I went from Backlight to Backlight 2. I deleted those 2 files, and now my search doesn't work. Maybe I need to rebuild those pages?

Going to your homepage, I get following error
Something went wrong
Unable to find index page.
Did you delete index.php?

No, it showed on my FTP client. I'll replace it.

make sure you use the index.php and .htaccess files that are at the root of the unzipped installer folder, not the ones inside the backlight/ folder

Ugh! now nothing is working for me. I'm about ready to restore the old site and try all over again.
Offline
If you do, then make sure to consult this doc: http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … acklight_2
And then make sure that the index.php and .htaccess files are in the right places.
In the unzipped Backlight-2-Installer-105/ folder you should see these folders and files:
backlight/
galleries/
.htaccess
index.php
the index.php and .htaccess files need to go into the root of your site

ok... Thank you. I'll restore the old site and start again. Thanks for your help.

Hello, I restored the old site, and attempted to start all over again. I ran the installer, and it said it was successfully installed. Upon clicking on "Continue to Backlight," I received this error message: Something went wrong
Unexpected error: Undefined index: language_code in 113-include-2.0.3-15-93-menu_5.view.template on line 14

did you also install the index.php and .htaccess files in the root of the site?
Also, are you using the latest installer? I believe it should be Backlight-2-Installer-105

Yes I did, and that's the installer I used.

Would you like access to the host?

That's something Ben will need to do.

Ok. I sent him the access info yesterday. Maybe he'll check. I thought I did everything correctly, but apparently not.

When you uploaded the contents of the backlight/ folder, did you include the index.php and .htaccess files that are in the backlight/ folder?
When updating from a Backlight 1 site, the only things in that backlight/ folder that you shouldn't be uploading are the custom/ folder and the data/ folder

EUREKA!!! That seems to have been the problem!
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

All good, Kurt? The other explanation for a missing 'language_code' would be if Backlight 2 hadn't been upgraded to the latest version.

It's all good. It's running fine. Thanks for everything!
