I'd like to remove search, language selection, and download buttons. Not needed here. I know it can be done, but I don't remember how...

For language selection, go to Settings > Languages and delete all but the language you want to use.
For Search, turn that off in the page template under Top Pallet > Quick Search
For the download button, edit the album template > Photo Presentation > Downloads: disable

Just under the Top Pallet > Quick Search, there is a drop-down selector in which I selected, "hide dropdown"...

In my version of Backlight 2 there is an on/off toggle for the Quick Search button
