Something went wrong

If this was an upgrade from Backlight 1, have you tried the password used previously?
As you've found, Backlight isn't able to send password reset emails before it's finished being installed. The link that would have been sent to your email is logged on the server, so can be found in the most recent file under backlight/data/admin/logs/. For example, after using the Forgotten Your Password function, my test environment, the contents of the file 20181015.txt reads:
[15-Oct-2018 10:45:17] TRACE: To reset your password, visit the following link: http://backlight2.local/backlight/admin/reset/d92bfffa7e715377c79bee47f9a4631ae4923342/
Copy and paste the URL from that file into your browser.
