Trying to update from Backlight to Backlight II. If I simply follow your install instructions, I'd be replacing both my existing .htaccess and index.php files, which I can't do. My (Wordpress) site doesn't function without the existing ones.
For those of us who don't use Backlight to construct the entire site and aren't programmers, do you have any suggestions for installing Backlight 2 over a previous Backlight installation on a Wordpress site?

You might want to wait for Ben to confirm, but if you’re just using Backlight for your galleries and your site is WordPress based, I don’t think you need the top level Backlight index.php and .htaccess. It would be just like if you had Backlight 1 without the Pages module.
It certainly won’t hurt to try. As you say, you definitely need he existing file for your WordPress site.

Do what Rod says. You should be just fine without the root-level .htaccess and index.php files, so long as you're not using Backlight to create pages.

Actually, that doesn't work, since there is no backlight/publisher folder. Obviously I need at least some of your .htaccess file, right? Lightroom cannot find the publisher API key.

You need the .htaccess and index.php files found inside of the backlight folder of the unzipped download. They need to be in the backlight folder on your site.

OK, my mistake. API now accepted. But now I get "Message: Unexpected error: Undefined index: slug in ApiController.php on line 281" when I try to publish my first album

Ben will need to take a look. He’ll need at least a link to your site.

Sorry—I gave up and deleted all TTG files on my site and will start with a clean install of Backlight 2. I just have to get a gallery online tonight.

Open the downloaded ZIP file, copy ONLY the folders:
backlight
galleries
Run the installer as usual. I've just done this myself in a test, and Backlight installed correctly without the top-level index.php or .htaccess files.
