Backlight 2 Backend OK, but error message instead of website

I installed Backlight 2 following the instructions. The Backlight 2 backend works perfectly well, but instead of the web site I only see the following error message in my browser (Firefox and Chrome):

Something went wrong
Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 10 disk I/O error sql: 'UPDATE `engine_view` SET `name`=\'page\', `type`=\'dynamic\', `path`=\'\', `rename`=\'\', `passthrough`=\'no\', `modified`=\'2018-09-19 21:02:59\' WHERE `engine_id`=\'95\' AND `view_id`=\'view.index\'' params: array ( ) in PdoExtended.php on line 551

I would appreciate every bit of information to solve that problem.

Thank you very much and best regards!

Re: Backlight 2 Backend OK, but error message instead of website

First make sure that you uploaded the respective .hataccess and index.php files to where they belong. There is a .htaccess and index.php file at the top of the unzipped installer file you downloaded. Those go in the root of the site.
There is a .htaccess and index.php file in the backlight/ folder of the unzipped download. Those need to go in the backlight/ folder on the site.

If that doesn't solve it, can you post a link to your site. Ben may also need Backlight admin and ftp access

Re: Backlight 2 Backend OK, but error message instead of website

Hi Rod!

Thank you very much for your super quick reply! I already copied the .htaccess and index.php file (like in your installation instructions), but I now suspect, that the problem might come from installing Backlight 2 in a subfolder of my domain instead of the top level. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I will try again tonight and let you know.

Best regards from Austria!
Christoph

Installing in a sub folder shouldn’t be a problem. But do make sure that the .htaccess and index.php files are in that sub-folder too as it is now the root of the site.

Be sure to post a link to where the site should be if problems persist.

Re: Backlight 2 Backend OK, but error message instead of website

Dear Rod,

sorry to ask you again for your help! Meanwhile I tried everything I can imagine, but the error message stays the same. This time I used a domain with a completely blank root folder and installed Backlight 2 into this root folder exactly like in your instruction video. Installing is no problem and the Backlight backend works perfectly well. But instead of a basic website I only see the same error message over and over again.

The domain is "weddingshooters.at" and I also set up an ftp access for you. I could send you all login information via e-mail.

Your help is very much appreciated!

Thanks and best regards from Austria!

Christoph

Remark: Some time ago I used Backlight (1) and CE4 without any problems...

When you install BL2 in a subdirectory such as test, the setup would look like

/test/
/test/index.php
/test/.htaccess
/test/backlight

you should send any FTP or Backlight access credentials to Ben or Matt, they are the developers and the ones that know what to look for.

But make sure to follow Daniel's advice above. There have been many installation problems from people uploading the .htaccess and index.php files to the wrong places.
If you can't see the .htaccess files on your computer or in your FTP client program, you'll need to find the settings that will reveal hidden files.

Re: Backlight 2 Backend OK, but error message instead of website

Hi Daniel,

thanks for your message! It looks exactly like that. All files are there (including .htaccess and index.php) and now I am not even installing in a subdirectory but in the otherwise empty root folder.

Any idea, how to solve that problem is more than welcome!

Thank you very much and best regards!

Christoph

I think that Ben will most likely need to take a look. You can save some time by emailing him Backlight Admin access credentials. He'll likely need FTP credentials as well.
