Lightroom Plugin Issues

I upgraded to BL2. My Lightroom is using TTG CE4 Publisher. This worked with BL1. I redesigned my website, changing from the Okapi Page to Pangolin Page. Everything seemed to work fine except for my albums. So I decided to reinstall the LR plugin, using the Admin Backlight Module, I downloaded the plugin and reinstalled it in LR. I am running into a number of issues with my albums:

1. After reinstalling the LR plugin, I try to authenticate the API key. I get the message "The authentication was not successful, please check the URL and API. I double checked the API key, the LR key and the key under BL2 Admin Settings are identical. I am using the URL that the installation instructions say to use: http://sweetlightgallery.com/backlight/publisher/  I notice, when I checked my website directory structure, there is no publisher folder under backlight. This would seem to be the problem. Am I missing something? The BL LR publisher installation instructions state "The API URL will be http://yourdomain.com/backlight/publisher". How can this work, there is no publisher subfolder?

I checked my BL Admin modules and it shows Publisher 4.02 installed. Also, after reading another thread regarding LR publisher, I am not hosting my own server. I am using GoDaddy hosting service, a widely used hosting service. Also the .htaccess file is present in my backlight folder. Also, both read and write permissions are authorized for this file. The other thread may answered my above question. The .htaccess file somehow directs the publisher to the correct location?

I am confused, why can I not authenticate the API key. Also, I notice that after entering the API key in the BL Admin settings, save it, when I click to edit it, the key has disappeared even though I saved it. Is this normal?

Please Help

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

Hi Ken, the location at publisher/ does not need to exist as a directory on your server.  The .htaccess file inside Backlight captures the name of the request and calls the appropriate function within Backlight.  Browsing to the URL in the browser shows that this mechanism is working as expected:

http://sweetlightgallery.com/backlight/publisher/

That's the expected output, since that URL is not intended for direct access in a browser.
Regarding a blank key, this won't ever be shown in the Settings.  Before editing it is shown as [hidden] and after clicking 'edit', you're presented with an empty field in which a new API Key can be entered.

That leaves the most likely culprit a mismatch of API Key.  Can you provide me with that key and a Backlight admin, via Email, so that I can look into this?

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

The API url is correct. There’s some .htaccess magic going on.

It’s normal for the key to disappear in Settings. I think it’s a security thing.

I think that the API url needs to exactly match your site url. So if your site has www in the address, so to must the API url. So try changing your API url to include www and see what happens.

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

Hi Ken, thanks for the email.  I can authenticate with your server.  I set the API URL within Backlight Settings to the one you sent me, in case it wasn't saved properly, and 'Check Authentication' responds with The authentication check was successful

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

Thanks for checking. Everything seems to be working now from LR side. Authentication checked out. Interesting, apparently you re-setting the API URL in BL Settings, corrected the problem. I had already done this, but I must have made a mistake. Happy it is working and thanks for your help. Now I can play around with the new Pangolin page layout options.

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

I am chasing my tail on this as well...  Is the api url in Lightroom and the "Site url" in the Admin > Backlight Settings supposed to be identical? http://website.com/backlight/, or just http://website.com, or http://website.com/backlight/publisher ? or is one supposed to be one thing and the other slightly different?

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

the main part of the url needs to be exactly the same as your site
If your site is http;//yoursite.com, then the API url needs to be http://yoursite.com/backlight/publisher

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

Okay.. they are and I am getting "unable to find publisher" when I check authentication in Lightroom. I have copied and pasted on both the url and api key so they are indeed identical (while removing "/backlight/publisher/" from site url in Admin)

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

going to this url: http://clients.hursey.com/backlight/publisher we should see a very specific error (which indicates publisher is installed where it should be)

One possible problem could be that the .htaccess files are not in the right places.

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

I am assuming I use the .htaccess file that was in the install folder and put it in the backlight folder as well? Do I also need to put it in the parent directory?

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

in the unzipped installer folder you have:

backlight/
galleries/
.htaccess
index.php

all of that goes in to the root of the site. And that's all you really need to do.

there are already other .htaccess and index.php files in the backlight/ folder. they need to stay there.

Re: Lightroom Plugin Issues

Okay.. it was the .htaccess files that were the issue in ALL of my problems.. the problem is they do not show up as files in the mac OS so there is no way to know they are there.. the only way I could get them was to upload the entire install folder and drag them to where they needed to go...Thanks!

The install instructions and our demonstration video both advise that you should use an FTP client, configured to display hidden files, precisely to avoid these types of issues.
