I cannot the solve the problem with the index page:

I cannot get a slideshow on the index page and the masthead for the indexpage and the gallery page is different from the about page. I cannot find what I am doing wrong.
If you want to have a look for me, you can use user guest and apenkool.

the album you're inserting is named "Theater"
it is not a Theater album, it is standard album
for the masthead, you're using a different page template for the Home page (Backlight Standard Page) than you are for Contact (pangolin page template)
Your Galleries page is using a template named "Standard Album Set Template", which uses the Backlight Standard Page template.
So your site is a mix of the old standard Okapi templates and the new Pangolin templates.
You need to assign your Home page to the pangolin page template
You need to create a new Album Set template using the pangolin page template
For the slide show, you need to create a Pangolin Theater album template and configure it to use the Vegas slide show.
Assign this template to the album you're using on the Home page.
You'll likely need to republish the album, especially if you've changed image sizes
