No navigation menu on tablet or phone

Hi,
Just spent 2 hrs. last night trying to get menus to show up. Could not get them to work, or so I thought...

I was working and checking using my Windows 10 tablet.

I checked my desktop before night night and saw that menus are there.
Probably were there a while back, but I assumed they weren't, because I was working/checking on the tablet, all along.

So why don't I see them on my tablet or phone? Bug?

What is your Navigation > Horizontal Navigation setting?

It's set to 'Top Pallet', so it shows up on a desktop as expected, and you would expect it to be on the mobile devices too, but it's not.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

It seems to have something to do with the slideshow on your main page, if you get past that to, say the contact page, the menu is there on mobile.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

The Slideshow settings don't have anything that I can see would affect the nav. menu.
If I disable playback controls, they still show (both desktop & mobile).

Also, I was double checking using IE and when I first visit/load the site, there s a large white box in the centre of the Content area. It does diappear when you refresh, but that's another bug.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

I use an inline vegas slideshow on my main page and don't have any problems with navigation but I don't have any experience with the other slideshow types. Looking at the page source I see your slideshow has "cover : true" and mine has "cover: false" but I don't know if that means anything.

You might experiment with inline vs full screen and then just shrink and grow the width of your browser window to see how the menu behaves as it gets down to mobile size and see if that makes a difference.

I'm also using Vegas. Thanks for the comparison - I'll see if I can hunt down that setting.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

It would also help if we could see your settings. There are a couple ways of sharing these, either by providing screen shots or posting Backlight guest credentials so we can look directly.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

I appear to have the same problem. My site is built on okapi and I started to explore pangolin last week.see test page http://ajpphotography.co/galleries/test … -pangolin/

I have tried all sorts of things and cannot get a menu on my iPad iOS 10 .

For rod I have set guest/guest also.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

Peter,

You have the vertical navigation set as "Disabled".

Tony, I haven't gotten into your admin, but I would venture to guess you've done the same.

Assign the vertical navigation to Pallet 1.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

ok, even though that's counter-intuitive, I now have a menu button on mobiles.

When I change my presentation from Vegas SS to say, filmstrip, there is no change.
Why is that?

This program seems great for a basic setup, especially with the video tutorial, but as soon as you start to customize, things can get tricky.

Is it possible to put up a sticky of common problems and work arounds? I find searching for answers on the forum can be very counter productive.
For eg. I had posted a 'Publisher' problem that I was told was a GoDaddy problem. No work around was offered, only a suggestion to change host. I have done that and am waiting for the change over. But, meanwhile, I discovered that Publisher will continue to keep uploading where it left off, so, although it's not ideal, it's a work around. Since GoDaddy is a common hosting site, then that issue/work around could be posted in a sticky.
As you say in your video, it's easier to just 'jump in' and start playing with stuff, than explaining how to do things. But please consider a sticky of the common 'gotchyas' you have seen on these forums to help us newbies cut our teeth.

This is a huge step forward for website design with minimal LR interference, so for that, I'm grateful.

Cheers!

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

your home page seems to be working now with a Flexstrip album. When I first looked, the album wasn't appearing even though I could view the album on its own.
As a test, I added some text to the copy area and saved the page. Then the Flexstrip album appeared. I removed the text and the album is still there.

The reason you need to assign navigation to one of the two pallets is because the navigation is displayed in the pallets on mobile devices. At first it is a bit counter-intuitive since you're probably thinking that you've already set navigation to be horizontal.

Solved:
So not only do you have to select something other than Vegas SS, but you ALSO have to select 'Open as Default',
Should this really be called 'Initiate the Change'? Because that's what it appears to do.
'Open As Default' Why this terminology?

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

Oh? maybe 'Open as Default' wasn't the fix - you got it to work another way.
I don't know anymore...
Switching back to Vegas now shows a blank screen...
Oy Vay!

Forgot to clear Template Cache - that fixes stuff too!

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

Open as default means that the first image is open by default rather than the album presenting the strip with no image open.

The way I got it to work (and I don't know why this worked) was to add text to the page's main content. Then the album showed. I then removed the text.

It appears clearing the cache is what needs to be done for changes to take place. Should be a sticky?

Maybe cache clearing should be done automatically when you save. Is there a reason it shouldn't be done?

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

I've found that clearing template cache is only needed if I don't see changes appear right away. Usually they do, sometimes they don't.
I don't know about making it automatic. I don't know how much that slows things down. That's something for Matt and Ben to comment on.
I need to use it so rarely that I'd rather not have it happen with each change, but perhaps they can add it as a switchable option.

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

An option might be the way to go, especially if the problem is host related.
I am guessing a lot of it is GoDaddy related. Thanks for all your help again!

Re: No navigation menu on tablet or phone

The cache updates automatically when making changes. When editing the album template, though, ensure you're looking at the ALBUM, and not a page with that album embedded (i.e. the Home page, with embedded album).
