Layout of caption and text in descriptive gallery

First - my compliments and thanks to the developers of Backlight and the
contributors to this service. Years ago, I used Matt's CE plugins to
produce albums and learned enough HTML and CSS (since forgotten!) to
cobble together a site that wraps around the albums and "works". But
creating or modifying albums is definitely a pain. Now that am starting
to feel reasonably comfortable with Backlight and have prepared some
templates, it is incredibly easy to do this.

While I would welcome more documentation about Backlight, the support
provided on this site is very useful.

My site is at backlight.fisherpix.ca. I use the descriptive layout for
sections which results in the caption and thumbnail appearing next to
each other. I would prefer to place the text below the thumbnail,
preferably aligned to the bottom of the box, with both elements centre
aligned.

While I have searched the postings here, I realize that I need further
"guidance" to prepare the necessary CSS code. Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated.

I would like to further "tweak" my site but will defer more questions
for now.

Thanks,

Barry

Re: Layout of caption and text in descriptive gallery

because of the structure of the Descriptive layout, doing what you want to do may not be possible. Have you considered using the Iconic Layout?

Re: Layout of caption and text in descriptive gallery

As Rod suggests, using a different layout option is probably the best thing. I see you're using titles, but not descriptions, so a different layout would likely be a better fit regardless. Try the Iconic or Classic layouts. Generally, Iconic is a good choice when you are manually selecting or creating thumbnails of uniform size, while Classic is a better choice when relying on randomized thumbnails.

Otherwise, if you want to stick with Descriptive, you may be able to use custom CSS to achieve the desired effect. Fair warning, though, because of my endeavors to have the descriptive layout be responsive while maintaining aspect ratio, the underlying code is probably the most complicated and squirrelly of all the layouts. It took me several releases to get it fully right.
