Is there a new selector?

After a search the result is displayed. Is it more than one site, you see the numbers of the sites right above the results. And there are arrows vor the next or the previous sites. If you are on the first site, the arrow to the previous site is displayed, but inactive. The same if you are on the last site, the arrow to the next site is displayed, but inactive. This code in Okapi doesn't show the arrows, if inactive. But it works not in Pangolin.

Oh, Ok.
Just looked at that in my own test site using the browser inspector (really handy tool to learn how to use). It doesn't show any direct descendants for an :after psuedo selector to be applied to.
try remove the descendant and psuedo selector and see if that works:
ul.page-navigation li.previous.page-link.disabled {
display: none;
