I created a new template: http://garylittle.com/galleries/pan-new/
marked as hidden and hide from search.
but when I go to the template list it is not there.
It is listed as PAN NEWONE when HOME/Galleries is pressed.
Here is the list of the templates from Backlight:

How do I edit it?

I'm a little confused. Do you mean you created an album and hid it from search? You can't hide templates as there would be no point, you're the only one who can see them.
You're album, PAN NEWONE does not appear on the Galleries page. And if you've hidden it from the album set as well, that's normal.
We can't see your list of templates as it requires logging into Backlight on your site.
