I just received a hot-fix for the 1.2 release.
I have not yet applied the 1.2 release.
Can I just ignore the 1.2 and apply the 1.2.0 or should I apply first 1.2 and then 1.2.0?

Yes, use the hot fix package. But update according to the instructions in the big 1.2.0 blog post.
