Rainer, thanks very much for letting me look at your custom css file.
Question: where I can I find a complete list of the css hooks you are using, such as:
.the__albumSet > .content
.album-thumbnail
I know you can find the hooks for the php files in theturninggate.php, but I don't know where one for the css is.

You cannot find it. It was hard work for me at the beginning to learn how all works. But with the great help of Rod, Mathew, Ben and other I got it. You make a right click on the element in a website and look for inspector or by me in safari - element information -. Then you can see which class is defined. Then you have to insert it into your custom.css and test it with different values. I have needed much time to find all.
But - if you don't find the hook - there will be Rod, The user with way too much time on his hands.
I have maken comments in my custom.css - in German - because I think, that other users can also translate my language like me every day , if they are interested of my custom.css.

But in may, when I started with backlight I stored the complete css file of backlight. Here is the link:
