Strange error in Wordpress when editing theme.

I was playing around with adding widgets to Tray 01 in Wordpress under Appearance> customize> Widgets> Tray 01. I Get this:

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/mysite/public_html/myblog.mysite.com/wp-content/themes/backlightWPtheme/inc/theme_options.php on line 54

at the top of the page.
I can edit widgets just fine and everything seems to work when I'm finished with it so the error doesn't seem to have an effect on anything. At least as far as I can tell. Just wondering what that error is about? And do I need to be concerned? Did I break something?
Regards, Mark

Re: Strange error in Wordpress when editing theme.

Hi Mark, the error is caused by third-party code that depends on the availability of widgets.  We'll look further into it.
