Hi there,
My existing website is http://www.deirdrelangan.com/
I've installed Backlight & Pages to http://www.deirdrelangan.com/TTG-BL
Can anyone give me good practise instructions on how I go about setting up a TEST environment please? I'd like to create a brand new site with this domain but I need to create & test it thoroughly before implementing onto the live site.
I've tried creating http://www.deirdrelangan.com/TTG-BL/TEST but am getting problems with menu items looking for albums instead of pages, eg. my Contact menu item seems to be looking for album http://www.deirdrelangan.com/TTG-BL/TEST/contact/ when in fact it should be looking for a page http://www.deirdrelangan.com/TTG-BL/TEST/?page=contact/
I'm wondering if the problem lies with my Company URL & Site URL settings. I've changed them a few times. How should these 2 fields be named? If you could give examples that would be great.
Hoping to hear from someone!
Many thanks.

Hi again, I've just realised that anything I've done with new menu items etc is now showing up in existing backlight galleries. Eek!!
I really need help & instructions on how to establish a new independent TEST environment that is totally separate to my existing website.
Many thanks in advance!!

Set up test sites in either a sub-folder or sub-domain.
If in a sub-folder.
Let's say your test site is yourdomain.com/TTG-BL/
Upload the Backlight folder to yourdomain.com/TTG-BL/
Make sure the index.php and .htaccess files are also uploaded to your domain.com/TTG-BL/
when setting up Backlight, use yourdomain.com/TTG-BL/ as the Site URL. I generally use it as both Site and Company URL

Thanks Rod. That's how I have it currently setup but I think (if it's possible) that I need to install it to a completely different directory & test area to keep the environments totally separate. I'll give it a go & see if it works & I'll worry about getting it to my live site (www.mydomain.com) at a later date.
Thank you!

The installation in your TTG-BL folder can be your test site

Thanks Rod. I created a new TTG-TEST area as I have some live galleries in TTG-BL (maybe not such a good idea without yet fully understanding software!)) & when I started playing around with new menu items I saw they were propagated to my live galleries in TTG-BL!
