An album with no photos?

I know this will sound strange, but I would like to create an Album that has no photo gallery.

I want to be able to publish photos to the album from Lightroom. But they will only be referenced by <img> elements in the page copy. I do not want them to appear in a gallery on that page.

I want it as an album so it shows up in an album set.

I can do it in CE4. Is it possible in Backlight?

sure, just create an album, add text to the album copy, don't include any images in the collection, and click Create.

In fact, you can just copy and paste the text you have in the page you linked to. You'll just need to check the paths to the images.

I am confused Rod.

When you say "create an album", I assume you mean in Lightroom, correct?

If I do that, and don't select any photos, how do I get the photos uploaded so that they can be referenced by my copy text?

I could just FTP them up, but my goal is to be able to have Publisher do that for me.

Yep, in Lightroom. That's the only way it can show up in an album set. But you'll have to upload the images separately via ftp to their own folder. There is no option to exclude the grid in an album template like there was in CE4.

Or you could still use Publisher to upload the images. It would require creating another album just for those images and hiding it from the album set. Probably easier than uploading via FTP.
The image paths in the article's page copy would then need to be changed.

That works for me.

It would be nice if support was added to Backlight so that I could exclude the grid from a Backlight album.

If that doesn't happen, and you plan on creating more article pages, you could create an album that's sole purpose is to house images used in articles. That way, all of your article images could reference the same folder and you wouldn't need to create a separate image album for each article.

right now I'm just using a folder named "img" in the root of my site to hold images for this purpose and I just upload via ftp. But I like the idea of creating a hidden, Publisher controlled album to hold all those images.

I use a hidden folder to upload images to use in other pages. Works well.

I've noticed that if I create an Album in Lightroom which doesn't contain any photos, it displayed in Backlight as a null image (border outline is shown, but no image) because there are no photos - see attached image for an example.

It would be very useful for there to be a default image, user definable via Backlight web admin, to be used in cases where an album contains no images.

My use case is that I make extensive use of Smart Albums, and I may create a Smart Album for a shoot where no images are yet approved. Once image(s) are approved by client or administration, a star rating is applied, which would automagically have one or more images appear in the Smart Album.

I suggest hiding albums from album sets until the album is ready to be shared.

Yes, that's what I will be doing - but it makes using Smart Albums a little less than... smart.
