Hi !
Ok, this is a key-topic for me !
Any chance to get a visual or more information on how to customize every page title & description in Backlight.
Ce4 was working like that for page titles :
page 1 title - Main website title
page 2 title - Main website title
...
And the description for every page was defined once and was the same for every page created in ce4!
Is it possible to customize every page with a very specific (and different) title & description with Backlight ?
Also, does the H1 hidden in the header is the H1 defined for every page created in Pages ? (as it used to be on ce4) Or can we customize our H1 the way we want for every page created in Baclight Pages ?
Side question :
If I understood well, there are no slideshow options for now in Backlight Pages.
Is it something you are working on ?
Thanks a lot !
Pierre

I'm not sure yet. If you look in Settings > Personalisation you'll see that the [COMPANY_NAME] token is used for Page Title. I've tried changing this using just text, but can see no difference on the page. Let's see what Ben says.

Matt will need to address the H1 issue. But you can customize the Identity under the template's Masthead tab.

Yes, Matt and Ben are working on it.

Presently, the page <title> is sourced either from your COMPANY_NAME or from the masthead identity.
The H1 is used in the masthead, when text-based. If using an image identity plate, there is no H1.
In either case, you may use an H1 tag in your page's content area for whatever purpose you like. The "One H1 Per Page" rule no longer applies in the HTML5 era. Here's a nice discussion on the topic:

Thanks a lot for your answers Matt & Rod !

Does that mean that I cannot personalize EVERY page title of my website just by filling in a field dedicated to that ?
Same thing for the description ? They are going to be the same ones all over my website ?

So that's different from CE4, correct ? CE4 always included a H1 with the identity plate. If I use an identity plate for Backlight, it means that I will define the h1 on my own with the content & titles I write (which is good).
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Keep up the good work !!!

For now, page titles are COMPANY_NAME; that is all. It's something I'd like to improve on in a feature release.
Backlight is completely different from CE4; I've recycled very little front-end code. The masthead is something I will surely revisit, both to rework what is there, and also to add more customization features.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for developing Backlight - made the purchase today!
Yes this is crucial to me also. I will need to customize meta data including title - so that each page can have a different header, keywords included etc.
I look forward to seeing how all this develops!
Well done,
Cheers,
Chumby

The keywords meta element is entirely useless nowadays, so not one that Backlight employs. We're doing everything we can for modern SEO, though, and those page <titles> will get looked at.

Hi Matt - Sorry for the confusion...
I was referring to including keywords in the title tag. Not using the keywords meta-tag. So basically just the ability to customize the title best way possible. Something like:
<site name>+<keywords>+<page name>
eg.
MyPhotoSite: landscape, wildlife, australia: Contact Us.
MyPhotoSite: landscape, wildlife, author_name1, author_name2: About Us.
etc.

Is there a PHP file I can customize so I can allow the Title tag for an image in Lightroom take the place of the meta Title tag being generated by Backlight?
Any way to have the image file name reflected in the URL as you go from one full size image to another using Photoswipe? Is the native filename being seen by Google?

In the album template setup, under Image Settings => Image Metadata => Photos Title, set this as you prefer. By default, the image's "Title" metadata field is used.
>> Any way to have the image file name reflected in the URL as you go from one full size image to another using Photoswipe?
No.
>> Is the native filename being seen by Google?
To the best of our ability to make it so, yes.

Hi Matthew & Rod !
I hope you are doing well !
I wonder if there's any chance to see some possible customization options of title & description for every single page we create under Backlight ?
Would it come soon or not before next year or more ?
Thanks for your time

what sort of customization are you talking about? Custom styling can be easily done by you with custom css.

No, Im' talking about the meta data : page title & description.
It's still about COMPANY_NAME showing on all the pages I create in BACKLIGHT ? No way to personalize every page, right ?
A few posts above Matthew mentioned that it's something he'd like to improve in a future release. That was 3 months ago so I wonder if there's anything new coming soon... Thanks !

I believe <title> improvements are on our to-do list for the big 1.1.0, which will come sometime after the Theater and WordPress add-ons are released. We might get to it sooner than 1.1.0, but probably not sooner than the add-on releases.
If you are in any way referring to potential improvements of <meta> elements, we have no such plans at present, as <meta> elements are largely out-of-favor in the current SEO (ahem) meta, which is entirely about page content.

Yep, the title is all patch up in 1.1.

Note that the 'Title' Backlight setting is now redundant. I missed removing that as part of the update. The configurable field is the Page Title setting within the Page Setup section of the designer for page templates.
