Is there a max image size for a template using the client response gallery?
If I edit the photo width and height in the "image settings" section of an album template, I can type a width or height larger than the sliders for height and width allow, but when I publish, it appears to max out at 2048 for each.
Possible to go larger? How?

the maximum size for images displayed in albums is 2048px. However, you can have Publisher create renditions for download at the same time. That setting goes to 9999px.
Enable downloads under the Large Image Presentation tab
And under the Image Settings tab scroll down to Photos for Download and choose "Create custom download rendition via Publisher". New controls will appear to choose pixel dimensions and other settings.

Awesome. Thanks Rod!

It's this way for all albums. Are you using the latest version of Backlight?
(actually, it looks like version 1.0.3 allows up to 5000px Publisher created renditions -- I'm testing 1.0.4 and it currently goes to 9999)
