CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

If a user upgrades to CE3 will the new plug in read the settings created by the equiv. CE2 plug in or will the user have to start the design from scratch.
Just wondering how much work will be involved taking the upgrade path (I'm using Pages, auto index and highslide gallery (and possibly Publisher - if I pull my finger out in the next couple of days smile  )

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Users will need to begin anew. To make the many gains in CE3, such as the responsive design, it really was necessary to break completely from the CE2 framework at source level. In fact, ground-zero for CE3 is a significant departure in design compared to CE2. The design seen in the image in this post is the default design for CE3. Quite a departure from the mid-grey "Asphalt" design of CE2. This is all in service to driving the point that CE3 is something different, and not just "the same thing, plus another one".

That said, if you're already using the publisher, then it should be much easier to migrate your galleries to CE3 by assigning your galleries to use a new template.

And if you haven't yet upgraded to using the publisher yet, then CE3 is an excellent opportunity to do so.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Are CE2 and CE3 allowed to both be installed at the same time? Also, any known issues of running CE3 Pages with CE2 Theme for wordpress? or any other CE2 product not updated to CE3?

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

I'm running both right now. My CE3 test site links to elements of my current CE2 based live site. In fact, I've set the Blog link in the Nav menu to target my blog page, which was made with CE2 Theme for WordPress.
The designs don't match, but the again, I wasn't trying to match them.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

You may have both CE2 and CE3 installed simultaneously in Lightroom, and they will work well enough together online, aside from design disparity. Both CE2 and CE3 offer full inter-compatibility via the auto index, etc.

CE2 Cart is wholly incompatible with CE3, though. You can use CE2 galleries and cart with CE3 stuff, but the cart listening will not work on the CE3 pages, etc.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Mostly the same as the current versions, with discounts upgrading from CE2-to-CE3.

the same applies for the Client Response Gallery? Most galleries I manage with the Publisher. The Client Response Gallery not yet. can I set a link specifically to this Gallery (maybe in Autoindex)? Or it is better if I set a link in the navigation to the old CE2 Gallery?

Is already foreseeable when the client Responce Gallery comes out for CE3?

on the occasion: what's new in CE3 sound very interesting and I am really looking forward to Sunday

Either way will work. I've place a CE2 version of a Client Response Gallery on my CE3 test site. I used CE3 Publisher to place it in the galleries/ folder.
There's also a CE3 beta version of CRG on my test site. And Matt has stated here that the CE3 CRG is scheduled for release in late March.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Hi Rod,
I'm testing to integrate the CE2-CRG into my test page. First, I created a password auto-index and uploaded it on the Server in the publisher-folder.
Then I created an album set with the auto-index password-template (is there a possibility to choose the password in Publisher or do I have upload for each password-protected album set a custom template?).
This has also worked well.

Now I wanted to create an album with the CE2-CRG template. Once I select the Template I get an error message: "Unable to perform action: getSetupForTemplate - Message: Renditions file is empty"
the same error like here http://community.theturninggate.net/top … e2-to-ce3/

I have somewhere a mistake?

How did you integrated your CRG Gallery into your test page?

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Make sure you uploaded your CRG template to the templates/ folder and not the templates_autoindex folder

You need a separate Autoindex template fore each username/password

I just published my test CRG as normal

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

I uploaded the CE2-CRG-Template in the templates-folder and the password-autoindex in the templates_autoindex-folder.

I had the same error message even in the upgrade from the CE2-galleries to the CE3-galleries, it seems there's a major error somewhere

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

I currently use CE2 Pages. I downloaded CE3 Pages and copied the file into web galleries in Lightroom5. I loaded the web page using CE2 Pages and it looked fine. Then I clicked on CE3 Pages on the right panel to see what it looked like. As expected, it looked different. However, when I clicked back on CE2 again, my settings for CE2 were no longer there. The masthead, slideshow, etc. were gone. How do I get my settings back for CE2 to use until I get a test page wit CE3 set up? Is there a setup file somewhere?

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

hopefully you created a user template of your CE2 settings or you have a backup somewhere (if not, now would be a good time to set up regular backups of important files). Otherwise you might just be stuck in trying to match up what's on your existing site with what you can do with CE3.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Thanks for your prompt response. I realized I was applying the CE2 default settings when I went back to CE2 and not my saved template.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

Another question. I noticed this before. My slideshow on my home page works on my iPad but not in Internet Explorer. It loads the first picture in the series but does not change slides even if you click on the arrow. It used to work fine. Any ideas.

Re: CE2>CE3 upgrade: settings

I seem to recall something about the latest Galleria not working with IE, but I thought that had all been resolved awhile back. Are you using most recent TTG plug-ins?

At any rate, if you're having problems, it always helps to post a link to your site.
