No matter what I vary, when I press the little 'slant' icon I can get no larger than 1122 X 740, or something close, Where can we alter the 'large image' size.

Do you mean the "Full Screen" icon on the large image in the browser?
That will hide the browser and just show the picture. The picture won't enlarge unless you've set it to be a size that's bigger than what can be displayed in the normal album interface.
Looks like your images are set to be 1024px wide. They can't be any bigger unless you change the size in the template.
Anyway, go to your album template > Image Settings > Photo sizes
You'll need to republish the images after you make any change.
