changing design and haveing it propagate

I have a dual monitor system, so I use one for the Backlight Editor and the second to show the results of changes I make.
Problem:
I in the Backlight design I change items both in the Home and in the Contact. When I look at the site no changes have been made.  Not quite certain what to do at this time.
I always delete the last four hours of the cache, I use Firefox on Windows 10.

Here is a link:  http://garyphotosgallery.com/garylittle/galleries as a test site.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

How are you refreshing those pages?
In my dual monitor system I log in to the Backlight back end and then open another tab with the site in it. I can then move one or the other tab to my other monitor.
Then click on the auto-refresh icon found at the bottom right of the site page.

I'll either do that or simply make changes and refresh the site manually.

If you navigate to another page, you'll need to click that auto-refresh icon again.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your problem.
One gotcha can be that if you've created a new page template and you've not assigned that new template to the page you're working on.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

I did not create a new template. I just went to Backlight design/contact and changed the text. I hit saved at the bottom of the page. When I look at the site, I get an internal error. Here is the error message when I try to see the Contact page:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@garyphotosgallery.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

One thing I noticed is that the ?autorefresh on the url stays on for many minutes. ??

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

Check Designer > Menu Sets > Default  (assuming you're using the Default menu).
for both About and Contact make sure that Link to is set to Page and the drop down corresponds to the proper page

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

Can you please provide a link where we can see this error?  It would also be really helpful if you could provide me with FTP access and a login to your Backlight admin so that I can work out what's going wrong.  If you're happy with that, please send the details via the Email link under my picture.

The Auto Refresh icon should spin until you either visit another page or click on the Auto Refresh icon again.  Auto Refreshing doesn't actually reload the page until something has changed.  It instead polls the server for changes, and if detected tells the browser to reload the page.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

When I did the installation with the beta release, I once forgot to copy the index.php file and got the same error. You run backlight from a subdirectory, I don't know if this is fully supported

Backlight should function in a subdirectory.  I've been testing the release candidates under http://localhost/rc/ without issue.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

Hi Gary, problem solved.  The /index.php file hadn't been uploaded.

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

I looked this morning and indeed it is working. What do we have to do to insure the index.php file is uploaded when we install??
Thank you very much for this...!!!

Re: changing design and haveing it propagate

Just follow the upload instructions wink

In the unzipped folder for Backlight + Pages you'll see two folders: backlight and galleries. You'll also have some files: index.php and .htaccess. Plus the Lightroom Publisher plug-in and a readme file.

Just upload everything except Publisher and the readme file to the root of the site. This puts index.php and .htaccess and the backlight folder in the root.
