Thumbnails in Album set resolution

Hi, before I get to far into migrating my +100 albums over, I have noticed that the thumbnails in my Album set are clearly either set to large or the resolution to low.

For some reason I am not able to move the image quality slider greater than 84% so wondering where I need to make the change to correct this.

Re: Thumbnails in Album set resolution

Moving the quality slider past 84% yields severely diminishing returns in exchange for massively inflated file sizes, which is why we do not allow it. For complete details on Lightroom's quality slider, I point you to this article by Jeffrey Friedl:
http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality

I typically recommend not going over 76, and I actually think that 69 is sufficient most of the time.

The problem you are having is not due to insufficient image quality, but to insufficient pixels. The Galleries page sources thumbnails directly from your galleries, but you your gallery thumbnails are smaller than than is required by your Galleries page design. For example, when a portrait-orientation image appears on your Galleries page, it is ~220px wide; but the actual width of the thumbnail image is only 129px. Your thumbnails are blurry because your Galleries page, in this case, is displaying them at roughly 170% scale. Your landscape orientation thumbnails will fare slightly better, but are still displayed larger than they should be.

So your options are:

1. Redesign your Galleries page grid to display thumbnail images at 100% scale, based on the thumbnail sizes of your galleries.
2. Redesign your gallery templates to use larger thumbnails, such that thumbnails will be of adequate size to be used by your Galleries page design.
3. Manually create and upload custom thumbnails to be used by your Galleries page. See this:

Re: Thumbnails in Album set resolution

option 1:
in Autoindex > Appearance > the Autoindex under Freewall (Masonry), set the thumbnail width and height to match that of what you've set in CE4 Gallery > Output Settings > Image Renditions > Thumbnails

for styling preview purposes, you can set the thumbnail dimensions to match in Autoindex > Output Settings > Image Renditions. You'll need to toggle the Watermark setting to force Lightroom to redraw thumbnails.

option 2:
In CE4 Gallery, under Output Settings > Image Renditions, set your thumbnail sizes to match what you've designed for in Autoindex .
You'll need to export and upload the gallery template. Then republish the albums. In Publisher settings, make sure that the "Push metadata without updating existing photos" box is unchecked before republishing.

Re: Thumbnails in Album set resolution

Thanks for that, I have set the thumbs to 220px in both the autoindex and the Gallery, deleted the galleries, reloaded the templates, reloaded the galleries and it looks the same..
Any further help?

Ok, have it sorted, I didnt realise the preview actually updated when you toggled the watermark so it shows me what I need to see. I can adjust the sliders until it looks good now.
