Adding a video: best practices?

I've created a slide show video in ProShow Producer and would like to add it a a gallery. What is the best way to do so? What format, resolution, and pixel size is recommended that strikes a balance between size and quality.

Is HTML 5 the new standard, or what should I use?

Guidance much appreciated.

You can't add videos to CE4 Gallery. But you can add video to a Stage page.

I looked it Stage over a bit and it looks like my best option would be Vimeo hosting of the video, since the wiki says, Serving video directly from your site will chew through your bandwidth quickly.

If vimeo would only embed in my webpage it seems that there wouldn't be a big difference to just posting a video still linked to vimeo. Am I missing some advantage with using Stage?

You could use html in the block to add an image and link it to a video hosted at Vimeo. Then the video would be viewed on a Vimeo page. But you won't be able to have a grid of thumbnails linking to videos.

With Stage you won't have to bother writing the HTML and the video will play inside your website rather than your visitors needing to click over to Vimeo.
