I use Stage to imbed YouTube videos.
My settings (all default):
W 640
H 360
Mantel and Core set to auto (values are 1140 each. I think they are not used as I have it set to audio)
All check boxes are checked, Of course that includes "Play in HD if available".
Video on desktop (iMac) or laptop is fine, with HD resolution as it should be. I usually shoot videos in 1080p or 4K.
On iPhone it seems good, but it is a small screen of course.
However on the iPad is is not high resolution. If I watch the same video with the YouTube app, resolution is fine, much better then TTG imbedded video.
Do I need to change settings to get the resolution on the iPad the same as the YouTube app?
Thanks.

it might have something to do with the native size you've set (640x360). Have you tried changing the video size by choosing it on the you tube page as Matt outlines here:

Rod,
I changed the native size to 1280 X 720 per the instructions.
No difference.

Then I suppose you should supply a link so Matt will have something to look at.

Frankly, I can't tell the difference between the two on my iPad 3

Rod,
OK. I am not sure why I see a significant quality difference. I am not aware of any settings on the iPad I could make.
I have fast broadband, but as I indicated, the YouTube app on my iPad works fine.
Not sure what else I can try.

Rod,
I did a screen capture from my iPad from both sites. Stopping the videos around the same point. The track, and center of the table are the best place to see the difference. The camera a was on a tripod.

This is consistent with all my YouTube videos on my site using Stage.

As I understand it, YouTube will select and send whichever resolution video the service deems appropriate based on your device and connection speed, and in accordance with the logged-in user's preferences. This is one of the advantages of using a hosted video service; a user visiting your site on their iPhones LTE should receive the optimal version of the video, rather than having their data plan slain downloading a full HD version meant for wide-screen television.
