Customizing Pages

I think I'm getting there. But I would like to customize the header and footer for the all the pages, and I would like to customize how the images and titles are displayed on the gallery page.

I would like the header and footer to be the same size and font as on my existing website: www.johnthackerphoto.com
My CE4 website is at www.johnthackerphoto.com/CE4/
Can this be done by editing the style sheets only or does it require knowing php? If so, any recommended sheets to customize?

For the gallery page, I would like something much closer to the page on http://www.brunocauwe.net/galleries.php
I really like the way the images and titles are displayed.

Just trying to find a path that will get me closer the basic layout of my current website, but with a really great looking gallery page.

Re: Customizing Pages

First thing to do us to enable phplugins site wide as well as custom css
http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … bility_api

I won't have time until this evening to take a look at what you're trying to do, but setting up phplugins and custom CSS will be a necessity

Re: Customizing Pages

I did enable php when the pages and gallery were uploaded. I then followed the instructions to get the server path and this is what came back: /data/17/2/46/142/2535142/user/2777916/htdocs/CE4/phplugins
Does this look right?

Re: Customizing Pages

that looks right.

when you enable the custom css section, be sure that you include that /CE4/ folder in the path to the custom css file.

If this is a test site and you plan on moving it all from the /CE4/ folder, you might be better off in building the test site in a sub-domain rather than a sub-folder.

Re: Customizing Pages

Just took a look at your site. I think you can get pretty close to your existing header and footer on the home page by just using the options in the plug-ins. Try the Integrated option.

The look of the galleries page should also be pretty easy to do with just the controls in the plug-ins. Unless you need the drop down menus like you have on the home page. Then you won't be able to center the menu without some custom work

Re: Customizing Pages

Rod,
You are referring the Lightroom plugins? Where in the panel is the Integrated Option? Also in the galleries what options come close to the one in  http://www.brunocauwe.net/galleries.php

Re: Customizing Pages

integrated masthead: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … integrated

for the galleries page:
Masthead placement: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … 4_masthead
Navigation: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … navigation
then just center the navigation: Site Info > Navigation Items > Alignment

Re: Customizing Pages

actually, since you're using Pages, the masthead and navigation style you create will be on all pages: Home, Galleries, etc.

What you'll have to do if you want different styling on different pages (not sure why you would as it makes for an inconsistent looking site) is to either replace the Pages Galleries page with a stand alone Autoindex page, or replace your Home page with a stand-alone Stage page or an Autoindex page with the grid disabled.

If you're using Publisher, replacing the home page with a Stage page would be the easiest thing to do.

Re: Customizing Pages

Rod,
Thanks, I'm using the same masthead and footer on each page. And I'm getting pretty close. But I want to change to background:hover color to be the same as the background ground, i.e. I don't want the rectangle around the link to change its background color. But I don't see an element in the LR plugin that seems to set that color. Will I have to go the a custom css? Your thoughts?

Also, I don't see any controls in the footer section that will let me change the height smaller on the footer. Custom css?

Your thoughts?

Cheers,
John

Site Info > Navigation Items > Background-color :hover

Footer height will depend on content, padding and margin. There are controls for padding and margin

Re: Customizing Pages

Rod,
Thanks much for helping me. I have gotten to the point where I think I have all the header/footer issued taken care of. Also I have "hacked" a gallery template so it has the same look and feel of the pages template.

Now that I'm starting to add content to the pages. I can't seem to have different images of the different pages. For example on the About, Info, and Services pages I have 2 columns. I want to have a different image in each of the side bars plus a different image in the home page. So, on each page I select the image I want from the film strip. When I export I get the last image selected on each of the pages. How can I get around this?

I'm not sure how to "combine" the Pages export with the Gallery template. I can seem to find a good explanation in the documentation. I think I must be missing something.

Your thoughts?

John

Re: Customizing Pages

Ok, I did figure out how to get different images on each of the pages.

But still don't understand how to "combine" my exported pages with the gallery template. The gallery plugin template is configured the way I would like but the gallery page is not. The grid is different and where the text is different. How do I make the gallery page look like the gallery plugin?

Re: Customizing Pages

Are you asking how to take your settings from Gallery, and apply them to other CE4 plugins, such as Pages? If so, then this is what you're after:

Re: Customizing Pages

No I have hacked the pages and got those setting to the gallery plugin.

Sorry about all the previous rambling as I find my way through the plugin panels. There is a lot there and figuring it out has been a monumental task. Thanks to you I'm sure it has been greatly shortened.

Down to the real issue now. On the gallery page, the album title and description take up a lot of space on the right side of the album image. I want on the title of the album to be shown under the album image. So that I can put more albums in a row.
So, I don't really know to customize the gallery page to make it so.

Your thoughts?

If you like I can load this on my server so you can take a look. Let me know.

Cheers,
John

Re: Customizing Pages

Use the iconic layout and custom thumbnails, similar to what I've done here:
http://campagnapictures.com/galleries/travel/

Re: Customizing Pages

Yes, iconic is what I would like. Do I need to use a Auto Index template plugnin? I don't see the Iconic option under Auto Index in the appearance section in my pages plugin.

Nevermind I found it!

Many thanks

Re: Customizing Pages

The Iconic works well, but the thumbnails are low resolution despite the fact that I have set the thumbnails to 1000 by 1000 in the Output panel. So the images are blury. I checked the image size they are 192px on the long side. On Campagn's travel page, the images are very sharp.
How to I fix this?
Cheers,
John

Re: Customizing Pages

the autoindex take the thumbnails from the galleries within it, unless you've made custom thumbnails. Whatever you set in autoindex for the output is just for design purposes. So if you're going to use the Iconic layout, create custom thumbnails of the appropriate size. :
