Slimbox is not a TTG gallery so can't help you there.
TTG CE4 Gallery allows for GPS metadata in the thumbnail and large image captions for both standard exported and uploaded galleries as well as Publisher managed albums.

Slimbox was a TTG gallery, years upon years ago. It was our first, actually. But I haven't looked at it literally in years. I don't even have a copy of it any more.
GPS data should work just fine in CE4. We're not aware of anyone having any problems such as you describe.
