I really like CE4 CRG a lot. The problem I have is that the password protection doesn't work on the server that hosts my web page. I have tried other hosts where the protection works just fine.
After login I always end up at the login page again. There's no error message. If I export the gallery to another host's server, everything is okay.
Is this problem known or is it just me having it? And/or is there a way for me to find out if there's a parameter on the host side that needs to be tuned?

This depends.
Are you talking about an uploaded CRG (non-publisher managed)?
Be aware that during the same browsers session, if you log-in to a password protected gallery (as opposed to an album) and then navigate away from it, that you'll be able to get right back into it without needing the password.
A link to a gallery/album would help.
if it is publisher managed, then be sure to enable guest access to ttg-be.
who is the hosting company in question?

Make sure you are generating the gallery with the latest plugin.

The plugin works but on a specific host it doesn't. It never has. I guess it is a parameter on the server side that needs to be different.
I've had this problem with earlier versions aswell.

I upload a gallery from Lightroom. There's just one host that gives me this problem.
I guess it would help to now what kind of PHP function the password protection uses.

you'll need to provide a link and more information about your host so someone (probably Ben) can diagnose the problem.
php 5.2.6 is the minimum requirement for ttg
you can see the code being used for password protection by exporting a crg and looking at the index.php file. There's a section starting at around line 96. Look for // PHP Password Protection Script
