General comprehension

Hello,

I have some difficulties to understand the general functions of TTG CE4, TTG Galery, TTG cart and LR5. I know that's it's due to my english difficulties (I'm french), so I come on this forum to get help. There are my problems:

I want to create a website where I will have thousands of pictures for sale (print or digital download) on the menu "Galeries", and where I will have a few books for sale on the menu "Boutique".

1- I've succeeded to create a website with CE4 Pages with all my menus, but now I don't understand how many CE4 TTG Galery do I have to create...
2- I know how to create albums but I don't understand how I can assign some albums only to the "Galerie" menu, and some others albums only to the "Boutique" menu…
3- Concerning the cart, can I make a cart for my pictures on the Galerie menu, and make a second one for my books on the "Boutique" menu ?

Thank you for your help
Marc

Re: General comprehension

hi Marc,

1- I've succeeded to create a website with CE4 Pages with all my menus, but now I don't understand how many CE4 TTG Galery do I have to create...

You can make as many as you need. I would advise against creating huge galleries as those will bog down browsers and frustrate your visitors. Break up your galleries into subjects or geographical areas.

2- I know how to create albums but I don't understand how I can assign some albums only to the "Galerie" menu, and some others albums only to the "Boutique" menu…

You're using Publisher? Here's one solution:
Create an autoindex and name it "boutique". Place this in the root of your site and add it to your main navigation menu.
Create another Publisher instance and aim it at "boutique". Publish your book albums to Boutique.
More on that idea here: http://ttg-tips-and-tricks.barbeephoto. … enu-items/

3- Concerning the cart, can I make a cart for my pictures on the Galerie menu, and make a second one for my books on the "Boutique" menu ?

Use one cart. Just create more Products. Create Pricing Schemes for the new products and assign the appropriate scheme to the album upon creation of the album.

For your books, you might want to consider using Stage for your individual book pages. This will give you the ability to add text to the page for a synopsis, blurbs, and other details.
For my books, I use an autoindex page that displays my books. Each book page is a Stage page.
you can see it all here: http://www.rodbarbee.com/books/
Since I only have a few books, I'm not using Publisher for the Books pages. They're just uploaded Stage pages.
Here's how to include the Purchase buttons: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … in_buttons

Re: General comprehension

Hello Rob,
Thank you for your help. I've spend a full week working on my website with your indications and my work is not far to be complete now. I've worked on points 1 and 2 and it's quite ok. Concerning the point 3 (Cart), I will work on it this week.

I have a small problem concerning the thumbnails of my galleries. My larges pictures are in good quality for the "HTML-single image", but really bad on the thumbnails of my galleries… I don't know why? How an I change get best thumbnails quality?

Thank you
Marc

Re: General comprehension

Can you post a link?
My guess is that you may be using the Iconic layout for your indexes. If so you'll either need to have you're albums create bigger thumbnails or you'll need to create custom thumbnails.

See this: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … thumbnails

Re: General comprehension

yep, the Iconic layout. You'll either need to increase the size of the thumbnails the albums make or create custom thumbnails for the index.
If you increase the thumbnails size of your gallery templates, you'll need to re-publish the images (Make sure that the "push metadata." box is unchecked in Publisher set up before you do.

this explains how thumbnails in indexes work: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … thumbnails

Re: General comprehension

1- I tried to increase the size of thumbnails into the "Images renditions" panel. But nothing has changed.

2- I insert the path "thumbnails/ancre9.jpg" into the album info panel, and create a "thumbnails" folder under my gallery folder and copy my specific thumbnails created under photoshop.

The both solution did not work…

Where is my error…?

Re: General comprehension

1. did you increase the thumbnail size of the gallery template and not the autoindex template?
did you export and upload the template again?
did you republish the gallery (making sure that "Push metadata..." was not checked in Publisher set up?

2. You're using Publisher. adding thumbnail info to the gallery template won't affect anyting.
At the bottom of that page I referred you to was a link regarding use with Publisher. Sorry, I probably should have included that too:

Re: General comprehension

Ok Rob, I found how to do it. Yesterday I put the thumbnails pictures into ttg-be/template/my template/thumbnails/ folder. It was an error. The good way is Galleries/my album/thumbnails/ folder. It's ok now.

I finish my work with the cart part now. I will close this topics after that.
Thank you
Marc

Re: General comprehension

If you've got any specific questions about the cart, be sure to post them in the CE4 Cart forum so that Ben will be sure to see them.

Re: General comprehension

Hello,

I'm going on with my website.
Is it possible to install autoindex inside another autoindex ?

I would want to create a 3 stages menu.
- 1rst stage: an autoindex by clicking on the main menu with will give 3 submenus
- 2nd stage: a 2nd auto index by clicking on one of the 3 submenus
- 3rd stage: access to galleries

Ho to do?

Thank you
Marc

Re: General comprehension

Yes, you can put AutoIndexes inside autoindexes.

Or, if using Publisher, Album Sets inside Album Sets

Re: General comprehension

Ok,

Now I have:

//autoindex1/autoindex2/gallery1/

All works fine until the thumbnail of the gallery. But when I click on the gallery thumbnail, my assigned album doesn't appear...
I have assign an "album1" to the "Gallery1" in Album info panel of the "gallery1".

Is there something wrong?
I don't understand why my album doesn't appear.

Thank you
Marc

Can't really tell without seeing it. Can you post  a link?

I have assign an "album1" to the "Gallery1" in Album info panel of the "gallery1".

I'm not sure what this means. Can you be more specific? Are you using Publisher?

Re: General comprehension

Hello,

Finally I succeeded to create my 3 stages.
1st stage: One autoindex
2nd Stage: One autoindex
3rd Stage: My galleries.

The only thing that doesn't work is the thumbnails of my second stage. They don't appear. I can see the file in the "Photos" folder and the "thumbnails" folder of the autoindex, but they don't appear...

If you have a solution... Thank you !

Re: General comprehension

there doesn't seem to be any galleries in the "format standard" folder
Also, you should remove the space from that folder name. For web files and folders, use only letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores. No spaces or special characters. That can mess up autoindexing and other things.

Re: General comprehension

Thank you Rod for the "space" of my folders names. I didn't know that.

I've gone on my project, it's better know. I don't know if my idea of structure is fine (autoindex1 -> autoindex2 -> albums) but it works.

Now I'm trying to fix a detail concerning the thumbnails of my albums.
1- Original size of my thumbnails are removed on the albums cover. Why? Is there a way to fix the ratio of the thumbnails?
2- When I upload the thumbnails in the Custom Folder (FileZilla) and after configuring the album with the option "Custom" in Album Cover, the thumbnails quality appear really bad. I don't understand why...

Do you have a solution please?

Marc
