Nudge in the right direction

Firstly, I apologise if I've not spotted this answer elsewhere, and I am still looking, but I thought asking may give me a hint to look in the right place.

So, here is what I am hoping to achieve and what I've done so far

  • I'd like to publish a folder of photos and these to be automatically added to the site.

My lightroom catalogue is split into years and then locations, so I'd typically publish a new location folder

The front index page, with links to galleries below thumbnail and text (ideally year and or location with sub galleries), possibly to other pages but not vital right now.

I'd like to use the Full Screen Flip to display each album.

I think I've bought the modules I need

  • I can create a Full Screen Flip page from a selection of photos

This uploads and works just fine

I can get the auto index page to create, but not with sub folders/albums

I guess my primary question is am I going to be able to create all this in a single activity, or do I need to complete this in stages, create the index, create the albums etc etc....

I'm just a bit confused at this point, excited by what I have been able to do, and keen to move on.....

If you can point me towards some answers, thank you!

Re: Nudge in the right direction

Can you tell us what modules you have? Are you using Publisher?

You can do what you outline, but how you go about it depends on a few things, like if you're using Publisher.

To get sub indexes in autoindex, upload an autoindex inside of an autoindex (or Albums Sets within Album Sets, if using Publisher)

Re: Nudge in the right direction

I think I have most of them now smile

I started with the blog and galleries pack, because I have used WordPress a lot and was comfy with it, but it seemed to add little benefit, and so I thought about setting the whole site using this instead.

This morning I purchased the Stage as that seemed to give me access to the full screen Flip I liked.

I don't have Pages which I think maybe I need now?

Full list I have is...

Auto Index (and Enabler)
Gallery
Publisher
Stage
TTG-BE
Viewport Sizer
WordPress

Re: Nudge in the right direction

You don't need Pages, you can still run your site using WordPress.

Re: Nudge in the right direction

Quick Update: I've had some success with publisher.... at least as far as creating an album, and publishing it using the full page flip and that worked!

I clearly now need (or at least I think I do) to get auto index working, as I can get to the URL of the album, but the folder above generate an error, I assume this is what auto indexing would fix?

Re: Nudge in the right direction

So here's where I have got to. I can create an album displayed the way I want. I can publish it, and have an auto index working, but only at one level, so I'm a bit stuck now. I've decided not to continue with WordPress and so I may not quite have it right.

so I have http://foston.com/photos/2007/Bestof2007 which works as my album display

http://foston.com/photos/2007 also works, both done through publisher

but http://foston.com and http://foston.com/photos don't work, and I can't see clearly what I need to put in place to get them working with auto indexes (ideally) I seem to be forced to go down into the photos folder only.

Hope this makes sense.

So you're using Pages?

http://foston.com/photos/2007 also works, both done through publisher

this is also Pages. I'm not really sure what you're up to wink

All the pages you link to are Pages....

I think you need to start over.

In the root of your site, upload the contents of your Pages export. This will be the bones of your site at http://foston.com

You've already got ttg-be set up in the proper location.

Export a CE4 Autoindex and upload it to ttg-be/templates/autoindex
Export a Gallery and upload it to ttg-be/templates/gallery.

Set up Publisher in Lightroom to target "galleries"

Use Publisher to publish Album Sets or Albums

Have you seen this tutorial?

Re: Nudge in the right direction

Hi again Rod, I'm really grateful for your input, and yes you are right.... I needed to start again.

Because I filled out the auto index section on Pages, I thought I didn't need the template, which I've just fixed.

I think I'm almost there now..... certainly a lot close than I was, so thank you for helping me get there.

I hadn't seen that tutorial, no, but have now, and having had a quick look, I think that might just fill the gaps.

My heads spinning if I'm honest because I've gone back and forth a few times now, and although I've got there, I did take the scenic route! smile

Still plenty for me to tweak and improve, but as a starting point, I love the pages it's giving me!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Hopefully I won't be too much hassle in future! smile

Re: Nudge in the right direction

well, you're relatively new to all this and it can be overwhelming.
The TTG system is pretty complex, but it does a whole lot too. Just take your time to let it all sink in. And take small steps. Like exporting and uploading a gallery to the galleries/ folder, just to see the magic of it appearing on the Galleries page.
